Continued Frsm Pagp Two ot ,noir spendable income this !'ear tnan tnpy did last year. They are still spending about three times more than they were in the post .war years of 1947 when goods were scarce. A considerable part ot the tenuancy to spend this year has been spurred by install ment credits. Consumer credit outstanding at the end of July had reached the record amount of four and one-half billion dol lars above July, 1952. Out of this four and one-half billion dollars increase, 4.4 billion dollars was due to installment credit. A size able part of this installment credit was on the sale of auto mobiles. Automobile sales dur ing the first half of the year were nearly 30 higher than a year earlier. On the other hand, far mers are not sharing in the high er incomes. The soft spot here has put a damper on the strong points of the economy. Market ings have increasde enough to take up the slack caused by sag ging farm prices. As a result, farm sales during the first eight months of the year have aver aged about 6 lower than the same period last year. This down ward trend in the income of farm people, even in the face of the strong domestic demand, has caused a feeling of uncertainty to creep into the economy. The boys are manifest ing most interest in the practical work and excellent training under the direction of Grant Rigby, instructor. The boys are assisting in setting up equipment, sorting tools and putting every thing in order. They are contem plating on opening an adult class late this fall or winter. We are also looking forward to the opening of the swimming pool and the dedication of the new building. There is a hot contest on be tween the classes to see which can be the first to pay for text books and student body tickets. The class that comes out last will give a party to the rest of the student body. Excellent results are hoped for. o THE LOVELY BLUE BIRDS The Lovely Blue Birds met Sept. 21 on the court house lawn.
