Sarah Adaline Johnson was
born in Butler County, Iowa in
1870. When a young girl of 12
years she moved to Spokane,
Wash., and there received her
education. She was married to
Leonard O. Dart November 10
1895 in Pendleton. The deceased
has lived with her sister Mrs.
Eva Warner the past six years
three of these Mrs. Dart was con
fined to her bed. Mrs. Dart learned

evening August 12th, 19d2.
Besides her sister Mrs. Warner,
she leaves three nieces, Mrs.
Carolyn Dickman, Los Angeles,
Calif., Mrs. Catherine Heck, Seat
tle, Mrs. Viola Fallette, Fairmont,
Mo., and one nephew, Edd Hunt,
Bremmerton, Wash.
Dr. Roscoe Ward and family,
Boise Idaho, motored to Pendleton
on Tuesday August 12 to call on
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Conyers, who
are both confined to the St. An
thonys hospital due to a serious
car wreck. Dr. Ward has been
the Conyers family doctor for the
past few years, and while here
consulted with the present doctor,
Dr. Broun.
The Tillicum Club met Tuesday
evening at the home of Mrs. W. E.
Garner. Plans were made for a
booth at the North Morrow County
Fair. Premium lists for the North
Morrow County Fair are now
printed and copies have been sent
to local and Irrigon residents as
have many other copies. Others
wishing a copy please contact
the fair board president, Clyde
Tannehill.
The Boardman Garden Club
members are planning to enter a
float in the parade for the North
Morrow County Fair, and will also
have a booth for exhibits.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnin Hug motor
ed to Portland Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Harwood
spent four days last week In Seat
tle with sisters of Mrs. Harwood.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Miller,
Patty and Jimmie Miller left Fri
day for a weeks vacation, going
to Seaside, Oregon, and may
drive as far as San Francisco,
Calif. Miss Grace Miller is stay
ing at the Hugs during her par
ents absence.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cole were
overnight guests at the Lowell
Shattuck home Tuesday, going
on to their home in Portland on
Wednesday. The Coles were re
turning from a months trip going
via Yellowstone Park Into the
Black Hills, S. D.
Mr. Edd Gillespie left Satur
day for his home in Exeter, Calif.,
after spending several weeks with
relatives in Washington, Idaho
and Oregon. While here Mr. Gil
lespie was a guest of his son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Zearl Gillespie.
Mrs. Catherine Heck returned to
her home in Seattle Sunday after
a few days here with her mother
Mrs. Eva Warner. Mrs. Heck was
here to attend the funeral of her
aunt, Mrs. Adeline Dart.
Mrs. Emma Ashton who has
been assisting Mrs. Warner with
the house work returned to her
home in Portland Sunday.
Mrs. Ada Wilbur arrived from
Portland and is a house guest of
her son and daughter-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs .Russell Wilbur.
Mr. and Mrs. George Sicard was
pleased to hear from their son,
Robert George Sicard that his
rating has been raised to A2c
A2c Sicard-is a ground mechanic
at Sheppard Air Force Field, at
Wichita Falls, Texas. The SI
cards also received word from
their daughter Mrs. Gunnar Skou
bo that their son-in-law Pfc Gun
nar Skoubo and Mrs. Skoubo will
return to the States sometime in
September from Germany, Pfc,
Sokubo will then receive his
honorable discharge.
Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Black
motored to Wallowa for the week
end with Mr. and Mrs. Crawford
Oveson. The Blacks had had the
twin sons Jeffrey and Gregory
Oveson for the past week and took
the little men back to their par
ents.
Little Janice Thompson, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Thompson returned from Port
land where she had spent a week
with her aunt Mrs. Robert Lem
ueix.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Whitmire, of
Grants Pass, Oregon, arrived on
Saturday evening and will be
houseguests of Mrs. Whitmires'
mother Mrs. Olive Atteberry. The
Whitmires drove on to La Grande
Monday morning for a few days
fishing with friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Lindsay and
family, Kinzua, Oregon, were
weekend guests at the home of
Mrs. Lindsays' parents, Mr. and
Airs. Robert Fortner.
Mrs. Lena Gibbs, Hermiston
was a weekend guest at the W. W.
Benson home.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Tannehill
arrived at the home of Don's par
ents Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Tannehill
Saturday morning after a ten day
vacation taking them into Can
ada. Little Mary and Susan Tan
nehill remained here with their
grandparents. The Tannehills
returned to their home in La
Grande Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Willard Baker and
daughters left Friday for a ten
days vacation trip, going via iel
low Stone Park. The Bakers ex
pect to return this weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sherman, of
Portland spent last week at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. George Si
card. Other guests were Mr. and
Mrs. All Kness overnight Thurs
day.
Mrs. Esther Emmons and son
Donald, La Grande were over-
nightguests at the Glen Carpen
ter home Sunday. The Emmons
are touring into California.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Root returned
home Monday after a weeks va
cation spent at Cannon Beach
Oregon. The Roots also attended
the Boardman "Old Timers" pic
nic at Silver Falls, Oregon, on
Sunday August 17th. Mrs. Claud
Coats relieved in the postoffice for
Mrs. Root.
Mr. and Mrs. John Walker and
son Dick, left for a ten day vaca
tion. The Walkers went to Salem
from here to visit Mr. Walkers
parents.
Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Parker
motored to Seattle Thursday for
a few days vacation. Mrs. Marie
Eades and Mrs. Josephine Rands
are running the hardware while
the Parkers are away.
Mrs.- Chas. Nickerson left for
La Grande Friday where she will
visit her twin brother John Bed
das who has been ill many weeks.
Mr. Elvin Ely has been trans
ferred from the Pioneer Memorial
hospital, Heppner to the St. An
thonys hospital, Pendleton. Mr.
Ely was badly burned while
working on the State Highway
many days ago, and had to under
go a skin graft on a third degree
burn under the left arm. At last
reports Mr. Ely was doing nicely.
Mrs. Ely and daughter Eileen,
and Mrs. Olive Atteberry motored
to Pendleton Monday afternoon to
visit Mr. Ely.
Miss Frances Myers was pleas
antly treated on her birthday Fri
day when her parents Mr. and
Mrs. Luther Myers and brothers
Bob and Jim Myers and brothers
Yakima to have birthday dinner
with Miss Myers. Mrs. Myers also
brought a birthday cake and the
trimmings. The family returned
home the same evening.
Mr .and Mrs. George Ellis and
daughter Dorris, and Henry Ellis
motored to La Grande for the
weekend with Mrs. Ellis' son-in-law
and daughter Mr. and Mrs.
Jock Barstow.
The Misses Nancy and Evelyn
Hulit with the assistance of their
mother Mrs. Dwight Hulit very
graciously entertained Robert
Fortner on his seventeenth birth
day Sunday evening at the Hulit
home. Dinner was served to
many of Roberts friends and his
parents. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Fort
ner on the lawn at 8:30 p. m. and
after games and fun, desert of
