FiftyFourlh Wedding Anniversary
Of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Allstoft
Social Happenings
Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Allstott,
Sr., observed their 54th wedding
anniversary on Sunday, Mar. 23,
with a family dinner at the Civic
Recreation Center in Hermiston.
The tables were beautifully deco
rated with spring flowers and
candles.
Robert E. Allstott and Mary E.
Wardwell were married in the
home of the bride's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. John Wardwell, on Mar.
20, 1898, at Beef Creek, Indian
Territory, in what is now Okla
homa. After a short honeymoon by
horse and buggy to Purcell and
Paulsvalley, they settled down
on a cattle ranch which Mr. All
stott managed for several years .
In 1903, the Allstotts came west
with their three children, Dollie,
Robert Jr. and Elizabeth, and set
tled in the Eight mile district
west of Heppner on Jorr. AUslott
wnoat ranch.

In 1920 the Allstotts expanded
their holdings by purchasing
the Henry Gay ranch on Rhea
creek where I'u-y engaged in ex
tensive stock and hay raising
and also dairyng. Due to a short
age of help and two floods in one
year which washed out the crops
and fences. Mr. Allstott turned to
turkey raising and was at one
time the second largest turkey
growers in Morrow coui'ty.
All but three of the children
had married by 1935 when the
Allstotts moved to Hermiston
whore they purchased the Pat
Sullivan ranch south of town and
engaged in the dairy business.
When the Umatilla Ordnance De
pot was being constructed, they
converted one of their bluegrass
pastures into a trailer court to
help accommodate the influx of
workers.
Due to Mr. Allstott's ill health
in 1942 they retired from the larm
and purchased a home on West
5th where they still reside. They
are members of the Chiistian
chAirch. After a short retirement
Mr. Allstott started working at
the Umatilla Ordnance Depot and
has been employed there fur the
past nine years,
All of their children arc living
and attended the celebration with
a large number of their children
and grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Allstott,
Jr., Mrs. Archie Padberg, Mr. and
Mrs. Otis Allstott.Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Burnside, Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Wilcox, Mr. and Mrs.
John Bray, Mr. and Mrs. Glen
Meek, Mr. and Mrs. Sloan Spencer
and Mr and Mrs. Don Allstott.
The following grandchildren
attended: Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sires
of Ordnance; Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Kelley of Kimberly; Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Despain of lone; Mr. and

Heppner Soroptimists
To Attend Convention
In Denmark
Plans to attend the 33rd regi
onal conference of the Northwest
Region of Soroptimist Club at
Wenatchee, Wash., on April 18-20
were made at the meeting of the
local club on Thursday noon at
O'Donnell's Cafe. The Heppner
club will be represented by Mrs.
Clara B. Gertson, Mrs. Pearl De
vine, Mrs. Claudien Wightman,
Mrs. Etta Parker, Miss Leta Hum
phrey, Mrs. Elaine George, and
Mrs. Ethel Adams. The annual
birthday party of the Soroptimist
club will be held on the evening
of April 10 at the home of Miss
Leta Humphrey. The local club
will be represented by two mem
bers Mrs. Clara B. Gertson and
Mrs. Pearl Devine, at the nation
al convention in Washington, D.
C. from Julv 20 to 25, and at the
international convention in Cop
enhagen, Denmark, August 10th
to 16th. They plan to sail from
New York on July 30 on the Queen
Mary and will spend some five
weeks in Europe during which
time they will visit Londan, Paris,
Brussels and other places of in
terest on the continent. They will
return on the Queen Elizabeth.

meet Saturday April 12 with the
II. E. C. giving the program for
the Lecture's hour. A surprise
number will be featured, two
skits, a monologue and an Easter
Tableau.
The program will start at 8:00
p. m. followed by the regular
grange meeting.

Past Noble Grands
Meet Wednesday
Mrs. John Bergstrom entertain
ed the Past Noble Grands Club at
her home on Aiken Street Wed
nesday evening. Plans were made
for a progressive dinner to be
held on the evening of April 23
for all club members. Mrs. Pearl
Devine and Mrs. Clara Gertson
will be the hostesses for the first
course at the Devine home; Mrs.
Robert Dobbs and Mrs. Bergstrom
will serve the salads at the Dobbs
residence; hostesses for the main
course are Mrs. J. R. Huffman,
Mrs. Lester Doolittle, Mrs. R. G.
McMurtry and Mrs. Frank David
son at the Huffman home; dessert
will be served at the Sigbee home
by Mrs. A. J. Chaffee and Mrs.
Sadie M. Sigsbee who will also
entertain with canasta.
Following the business session,
games were played with prizes
in the Easter motif, being pre
sented to the winners. Present
