The Soroptimist Club met for a
noon luncheon at O'Donnell's on
Thursday March 6. This was
their regular business meeting

1 cup Florida grapefruit juice
2 teaspoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons salad oil
Ja teaspoon paprika
teaspoon dry mustard
teaspoon Tabasco

1 teaspoon sugar 1 peled clove garlic (optional)
Blend ',4 cup of the grapefruit juice and cornstarch. Cook over low
heat stirring constantly, until thickened and clear. Kemove from heat;
add remaining i cup grapefruit juice. Measure into small mixing bowl
remaining ingredients; add cornstarch mixture and beat with rotary
heater until smooth. Store covered in refrigerator. Shake before using.
YIELD: 1M cups.

Rebekahs Hold
Initiation Friday
Initiation ceremonies for three
candidates, Mrs. Jennie Lewis, J.
C. Payne and Emory Settles, were
presented at the regular meeting
of Sans Souci Rebekah Lodge,
Friday evening. Some 40 mem
bers were in attendance together
with, several guests from other
lodges including Mrs. Al Fetsch,
Mrs. Leonard Munkers, Mrs. Rob
ert Davidson, Mrs. Charles C.
Jones, Mrs. Ted McMillan, Mrs.
Adolf Majeske and Mrs. Truman
Messenger ' of Holly Rebekah
Lodge, Lexington; Mr. and Mrs.
E. R. Lundell, of Bunch drass Re
bekah Lodge, Ione;and Mrs. G. N.
Perry of Pauline Rebekah Lodge,
Pendleton. Following lodge, a
social hour was enjoyed, hostes
ses for which were Mrs. N. D.
Bailey, Mrs. Elwynne Hughes,
Mrs. Frank S. Parker, Mrs. Don
Robinson, and Mrs. Scott Furlong.
On March 21, the men mem
bers of Sans Souci will be hosts
for the meeting and will furnish
refreshments and entertainment.
Tom Allen is general chairman
for the meeting. Initiation has
been scheduled for the first meet
ing of April at which time five
candidates will be given the Re
bekah Degree.

Weekend guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Parrish were their son
and daughter-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Raymond and son, Ricky, of
Portland and Mr. Parrish's bro
ther, Wick Parrish and daughter,
Patsy, of Condon.
Bookworms Meet
With Mrs. McNamer
The Bookworms Club met Tues
day evening with Mrs. Sara Mc
Namer as hostess at her home in
the Lanham Apartments on Bal
timore street. Mrs. Florence Green
reviewed the book "Petticoat Sur
geon" by Bertha Van Iloosen.
This is an autobiography of a
woman physician and surgeon
and her experiences in Chicago
and other parts of Illinois. Mrs.
Van Iloosen was a pioneer in the
field of medicine and paved the
way for others of her sex to be
come physicians and surgeons.

Social Club Party
Over $80 was taken in at the
Eastern Star Social Club card
party at their hall Saturday even
ing. There were 8 tables of pin
ochle, 3 of contract bridge and
2 of auction bridge. Those win
ing prizes were in pinochle,
Mrs. Edna Turner and Walter
Corley high, Mrs. Harry Duvall
and Charles Beckett low and Mrs.
Ed Buschke 300 pinochle; con
tract bridge, Mrs. Earl Gilliam
and Henry Osibov high and Mrs.
Osibov low; auction bridge, Mrs.
Paul Pettyjohn high, Mrs. C. E.
Swanson low, and Mrs. E. R. Lun
dell jack high. Refreshments
were served afterward.

was in Heppner on Monday.
Rebekahs and IOOF
Visit Echo Monday
On Monday evening thirty-two
Rebekahs and Oddfellows jour
neyed to Echo to attend the joint
meeting of the two organizations.
A pot-luck dinner was held prior
to the lodge session during which,
as an entertainment feature, "the
drill team of San Souci Rebekah
Lodge presented the floor work
under the direction of Mrs. Mor
lyn Robinson, team captain. In
the near future, the Echo organi
zation will pay a return visit to
the Heppner lodges.-
LOCAL REBEKAH TO GET
SPECIAL AWARD
Mrs. John Bergstrom has been
recommended by Sans Souci Re
bekah Lodge as a candidate to
receive the Decoration of Chival
ry, This is an award bestowed
upon members who have been
especially meritorious in the
work of Oddfellowship. Candi
dates are recommended by their
lodges and are chosen by the
nearest Canton, which in the case
of the local lodge, is Canton No. 3
of Tendleton. The decoration is
presented at the Grand Lodge
session which will be held the
third week in May at Salem.
DINNER PARTY HELD MONDAY
Mr. and Mrs. Willard Warren
and Mr. and Mrs. Marcel Jones
were hosts for a buffet dinner
Monday evening at the Warren
home on S. Chase street. Guests
were Rev. and Mrs. Earl Soward,
Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Neill and Mr.
and Mrs. Jesse O. Turner.
