lone Extension Meeting Held

The lone Extension Unit met
at the home of Mrs. Sam Esteb
Friday afternoon of last week.
Mrs. Maude Casswell.agent, de
monstrated the use of plaids and
stripes in the home. She stated
that square dances would be held
in February. Preliminary meet
ing to be held the last of tne
month for the slipper chair pro
ject. Anyone will be eligible to
make a chair. Mrs. E. M. Baker

Agent's office and any one in
terested could obtain a copy. Re
frashmets were served by Mrs.
Esteb. The next meeting will be
Draperies.
Graveside services were held for
Jobe Ezra Crabtree here Jan. 2,
by Willows grange. The Phelps
Funeral had charge. The pall
bearers were Earl Morgan, Henry
and John Krcbs, Albert, Frank
lin and Roy Lindstrom.
Mr. Crabtree was born Oct
23, 1869 at Cico, to George and
Fairlotta Crabtree. He was mar
ried to Hattie Lindsey in 1869. To
this union were born 4 children.
They lived in this vicinity until
1935 when they moved to Salem
where he made his home until his
death Dec. 28.
Relatives coming to the funeral
from a distance were Mrs. Roy
Stender, Mrs. Hattie Crabtree, Mr.
and Mrs, Leo Crabtree and child
ren from Salem.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford McCabe
and children, Ronald and Elea
nor, attended the reception for
their son-in-law and daughter,
Mr .and Mrs. Donald Harris, at
the Dwight Harris home in Port
land Dec. 28. They reported over
70 attended the reception and
that Mr. and Mrs. Donald Harris
were at home at 4635 S. E. 28th
and Holgate in Portland. Mr. and
Mrs. McCabe spent a week in
Portland.
Mr. and Mrs.. Herbert Ekstrom
entertained a group of friends at
their home New Years eve. The
evening was spent in playing
cards. Those winning prizes were
high, Mrs. Pete Cannon and C. E.

Mrs. Garland Swanson received
word that her mother, Mrs. Regina
Miller of Salem, fell and broke
her hip on New Years day.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Jannsen
are the parents of a son, Harold
Martin, born Sunday, Jan. 6. In
the Pioneer Memorial hospital.
Weight 8 lbs. and 13 ozs. Mrs.
Vera Portis ad Gus Jannson are
the grandparents.
Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Devin of
Condon are the parents of a son
Darrell Francis, born Sunday, Jan.
6 at the Pioneer Memorial hos
pital in Heppner. Weight 5 lbs.
and 11 ozs. Mrs. Lana Padberg
is the grandmother.
Mrs. Lewis Ball accidently cut
her head with an axe while cut
ting wood at her home Thursday

New Year eve guests at the

Mrs. T. N. White and son, Dale,

and Mrs. Donald Bail and sons.

Sammy Barnett, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ray Barnett, underwent an
appendectomy in the hospital in
Heppner Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Berl Akers and
family are living in town during
the winter.
Those on the honor roll for the
second six weeks in the high
school were: Duane Baker, Elise
Bauernfeind, Letta Linn, Law
rence Jones, Denny Swanson, Le
Roy Brenner, Malcolm McKinney,
Mike Reininger, and Mary Jep
sen. Pomona grange was held at
Willows grange hall Saturday
with representatives from Board
man, Lexington, and Rhea Creek
present. At the business meeting
the remaining officers were in
stalled and Mrs. Flossie Coats of
Boardman was elected as secre
tary. In the afternoon a program
was presented which consisted
of A skit, Christmas Eve at
Casey's, by the Boardman grange,
a reading Home by Mrs. J. Palmer
Sorlien of Heppner and slides on
windbreaks by Nelson Anderson,
county agent. A turkey dinner
was served at noon to around 75
and a lunch was served in the
evening.
