Omar Rietmanns Have
Potluck Dinner
Mr. and Mrs. Omar Rietmann of
lone entertained at a pot luck
buffet dinner at their home before
the Eastern Star meeting the
evening of Nov. 13. Those pre
sent were: Mrs. Fay Ambrose,
past worthy matron of Oregon,
Mrs. Irene McKinley, grand con
ductress, of Oregon; Mrs. Alina
Orwig, grand organist, of Oregon;
Mrs.Amanda Harrison of Wichita,
Kansas, those from the Heppner
Chapter were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd
Worden, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Par
ker, Mrs. Harold Beckett, Mrs.
Claude Graham, Mrs. Gene Fer
gerson, Mrs. Noel Dobyns, those
from here were Mr. and Mrs. Her

Speaks to Soroptimists
Miss Nora C. Lalor, hospital
consultant to the Oregon State
Board of Health, Portland, was a
guest of the Soroptlmlst Club at
its luncheon Thursday at O'Donf
nell's Cafe. Miss Lalor discussed
certain phases of her work and
used a film to illustrate her talk:
Mrs. Maude Casswell furnished
and operated the projection ma
chine. "Other guests were Mrs.
Walter Berger, Mrs. Henry Rauch,
Jr., Mrs. Dalbert E. Bailey and
Miss Martha Tappanainen. The
Soroptimist Club members are
bulsily engaged at present in
preparation of a Christmas box of
food which will be sent to their
sister club in Tamworth, England.'
Foodstuffs that are unavailable
or scarce in England will be in
cluded in this box.

Hold Joint Meeting
One of the most Interesting
meeting of the year was held on
Wednesday at, the Odd Fellows
Hall when Willows Lodge No. 66
and Sans Souci Rebekah Lodge
held a joint social affair in ob
servance of "Oddfellows month"
in accordance with the recent pro
clamation of the Grand Master,
George M. Lyons, Portland. A
program was presented which In
eluded three dance numbers by
Mary Monigle and Francine Fran
cis students of Mrs. Clarence
Johnson; two solos, "Smoke Gets
In Your Eyes" and 'The Poor
Finish" by Mrs. Lucy Peterson
was accompanied by Mrs Charles
A. Ruggles; Rev. J. Palmer Sor-
lein, past grand Chaplain of the
Grand Lodge of Oregon, was the
guest speaker using as his topic
,'Oddfellowship" Following this,
two movies were shown "The
Tournament of Roses Parade and
Football game for 1951" and "Na.
ture's Trials a tour of the Grand
Canyon, Bruce Canyon and Zion
National Parks." The program
concluded wih a quiz program
conducted by Professor Clara
Gertson and western music by Roy
Quackenbush and Mrs. Eugenia
Huston. Refreshments were ser
ved to sixy-five- members and
guests.

PTA Hears Monmouth
Nursery Instructor
Mrs. Jessie V. Perkins, kinder
garten and nursery school in
structor at Oregon College of Edu
cation, Monmouth, was guest
speaker at the regular meeting
of the Parent-Teachers' Associa
tion, Wednesday evening at the
high school. Mrs. Perkins spoke
on kindergarten and nursery
school work using a short film
to illustrate her topic. The new
ly organized men's choral group,
"The Harmony Club", sang two
numbers, "Drink to Me Only With
Thine Eyes" and "Swing Low
Sweet Chariot". Director of the
group is Oliver Creswick and ac
companist is Mrs. Ethel Lyng-
holm. Mrs. Tress McClintock and
Mrs. Claude Graham were room
mothers in charge of refreshments
and were assisted by several other
members. Mrs.4 Edwin Dick was
in charge of the program

present The program consisted

Adon Hamlett, reading bv Mrs.
Lewis Halvorsen, whistling solo
by Mrs. McKinley, accordlan solo
by Mrs. Orwig, and an addenda
by Jhe members in honor of Mrs.
Rietmann and Mrs. Lindstrom. A
potluck dinner was served at the
Rietmann home before the meet-
ing a buffet lunch afterward.
Those assisting Mrs. Herbert Ek
strom, worthy matron, were Mrs.
Claude Graham arid Mrs. Gene
Ferguson of Heppner who poured,
Mrs. Halvorsen and Mrs. Robert
DeSpain had charge of the guest
book, others assisting were Mrs.
Vivian Hayes, Mrs. Gladys Con
nor, Mrs. Sam Esteb, Mrs. Mary
Swanson, Mrs. Walter Dobyns,
Mrs. E. M. Baker, Mrs. Millard

The family of Mr. and Mrs.
John Bergstrom are giving a re
ception for them in honor of their
twenty-fifth wedding anniver
sary. It is being held Saturday
evening November 24 from 7 until
9 at the John Bergstrom Country
Home. All friends are cordially

BIRTHDAY PARTY HELD
Mrs. Walter Barger entertained
Saturday afternoon with a party
complimenting her daughter,
Connie, on the occasion of her
fourth birthday. Guests includ
ed Jennifer Smith, Tricia Farley,
Patty Collins, Alice Vincent,
Libby Evans, Debby Bargar and
the honoree. Games were played,
gifts presented and refreshments
of birthday cake and ice cream
served. Mrs. James J. Farley as
sisted Mrs. Bargar with the party.
