Picnic Attracts
Many to Mountains

Around 75 attended the 23rd
annual picnic of the Valby Luth
eran Sunday school at the Wight
man ranch in the Blue mountains
Sunday. A potluck dinner was
served at noon with plenty of Ice
cream. The afternoon was spent
in playing baseball and visiting.
Mrs. Omar Rietmann received
word of the death of her niece's
husband at Corvallis. Mrs. RIet
mann left Tuesday to attend the
funeral at Corvallis Wednesday.
Mrs. Eva Hall of Los Angeles
is visiting at the Ernest Heliker
home. Mrs. Hall is a sister-in-law
of Mr. Heliker.
Mrs Webster Hamlett left for
her home in Sunnyvale, Calif.
after visiting at the home of her
son, Adon Hamlett.
Mr. and Mrs. Elson Hamlett
of Palo Alto, Calif, are visiting
at the home of his brother, Adon
Hamlett
Mrs. Franklin Ely spent the
week-end at home from Portland
where she is attending summer
school.
Miss Barbara Smith, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Dixon Smith, Is
attending summer school at the
University of Southern Califor-
nia in Los Angeles. Miss mith
graduated from the University of
uregon in June.
Mrs. Ruby Fairis and Mrs. Clif
ford Tice and daughter of Pendle
ton spent Sunday at the Robert
DeSpaln home.
Erik Bergstrom is a patient in
the Pioneer Memorial hospital in
Heppner.
Roland Bergstrom purchased
the Beckner house on Main street.
Mrs. James Pettyjohn and Miss
Ruby Ann Rietmann were host
esses for a bridal shower in honor
of Mrs. Henry Smith of Tillamook.
Mrs. Smith is the former Carletta
Olden. She received many appro
priate gifts.
Plans for the Grabill family re.
union at Emigrant Park were up
set when word was received of a
car accident of the Wright fam
ily of Baker who were on their
way to the reunion. The accident
occurred near Baker. Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Wright are both in the hos
pital in Baker. Mrs. Guy Wright
received leg injuries and the
others were badly shaken up.
Mrs. Earl Wright is a daughter of
Mrs. Ida Grabill. .
