WORDS OF APPRECIATION
To the kind hearts and gentle
people of Heppner and vicinity:
I wish to take this opportunity
of conveying my appreciation for
the hospitality and kindnesses
shown me during my two years
of residence among you. I have
walked, talked and cried with
you until you have grown very
close to me sentimentally, but
economic conditions seem to dic
tate a change of residence. Un
like the old soldier, I do not in
tend to just "fade away" but
going back to historical passages,
I (with apologies) "I shall return"
At the head of beautiful Wallowa Lake (pictured above) and with white-capped Mt. Bonneville towering above
it, Wallowa Lake State Park, one of Oregon's newest, most modern, and most beautiful state parks is located.
July 4th has been set as the dale for the dedication of this area of mountain wonderland, and Marshall Dana,
former editor of the Oregon Journal has been chosen to give the dedication address. Established in 1947, Wallowa
Lake State Park has ample camping facilities to care for those who come to the lake to enjoy it's fishing, boating
and swimming and the riding and hiking that the surrounding mountains afford. The entire Northwest is invited
to join the people of Wallowa County in the dedication ceremonies on the 4th of July and to spend the day
relaxing in the Wallowa Wonderland.
