RISKS AND REWARDS
By GEORGE PECK
Recently it was my pleasure
to review a movie, "The Du Pont
Story." It unfolds the authentic
narrative of an acorn planted in
1801 growing to the sturdy oak
which we know today as the E.
I. Du Pont de Nemouns and Com
pany it depicts how a tiny busi
ness developed into a gigantic
industry by making an ever-increasing
contribution to the wel
fare of the Americn people.
"The Du Pont Story" is not a
movie designed for Stalin to show
his Russian slaves, but it is one
that every American should see.
Providence hospital, Portland, for
specialist care.
It is beautifully done in Techni
color; lit has all the elements of
god entertainment: drama, sus
pense, romance and humor. And
in addition it teaches a lesson in
the fundamentals that make our
American economic system tick.
It is to be hoped that this picture
will be shown in every communi
ty theatre.
The one of many impressive
episodes that stands out above
all others in my mind takes
place early in the film. In 1801
Irenee du Pont, newly arrived
from France, conceived the idea
of building a powder plant. He
took his plans to President Thorn,
as Jefferson, with whom the fol-

Jefferson: "Good! We need

but for blasting clearing farm
