Dinner Parties Are
Monument Fare
For Thanksgiving

Mr. and Mrs. George Stirritt,
Mrs." Fred Shank, Laura Lee
Shank and Carol Sweek drove to
their ranch on Cottonwood to
.spend Sunday with Mr. Shank.
Mr. and Mrs. Otis Allstott and
children of Hermiston spent the
Thanksgiving holiday with her
mofher, Mrs. Daisy Simas.
The dance Thursday night,
sponsored by the MMM club, was
well attended. The music was
furnished by the Rim Rock Sere
nades. Supper was served at the
school house.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stockton of
Prineville and Mr. and Mrs. Cliff
Adams of Denver, Colo, visited
over the week-end with Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Cork. Adams and Mrs.
Stocktton are brother and sister
t.o Mrs. Cork.
Mr. and Mrs. Mike O'Rourk and
son from Klamath Falls visited
relatives over the week-end. Mrs.
O'Rourk will be remembered as
VVilla May Jones. -
Mr. ad Mrs. Steve Holmes en
tertained on Thanksgiving with
a turkey dinner. Among the
guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ed
Round, Mrs. Jessie Round, Mrs,
Mamie Fergerson and Mrs. Lottie
Joss.
Miss Anita Moore, Miss Shirley
Fleming, Roy Arlot Cork and Jack
Forrest were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Simas on Thanksgiving
day.
Clyde Jackson was brought,
home Monday from the hospital
at John Day. He suffered a se
vere attack of pneumonia. Altho
still quite weak he is improving
satisfactorily.
Ivan Enright brought his wife
home Monday from Heppner. She
had acute tonsilitis and had to
remain near a doctor for a few
days.
Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Schouten
of Seneca spent Thanksgiving
with Mrs. Schouten's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Flower and
her sister, Susie Baker. They left
for home Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Al Arseneau were
business visitors in Prairie City
Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Barnard had
as their guests for Thanksgiving
dinner, Mr. and Mrs. Theron King
and son Earl Frank, Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Durst, Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Gassner and Doc Hinton.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson
and son and Mr. and Mrs. Everett
Johnson of Bend enjoyed being
with relatives in Monument for
the Thanksgiving holiday. They
attended the MMM club dance
and there met many of their
friends.

Mrs. Nora Boyer, Miss Yvonne
Stoneman and Norris Stubblefield
drove to Portlan dto spend the
holidays. Mrs. Boyer expects to
do some Christmas shopping for
the store while there.
Mrs. Margery Hughes and son
Jimmy of Pendleton, Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Elder of Ontario, Frank El
der and Joe Elder were all home
with their mother, Mrs. Margaret
Elder, for Thanksgiving. Mrs. El
der returned to Pendleton with
Mrs. Hughes Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Gus Strecker
spent the holidays with relatives
in Portland.
Earl Sweek recently purchased
the Knaff property in the west
end of town. The Knaff family
moved to Spray.
Mr. Peterman, principal of the
grade school, moved his students
into the tirst classroom compie
ed by Earl Sweek and Mead Gil
man. The room was equipped
with new desks and fluorescent
lights recently painted by Miles
Gilman.
Ruth Swick of Oregon City ac
companied Fred Shank from John
Day last Tuesday. She was house
guest of Mrs. Grace Stirritt while
here. From here she went to tne
home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gass
ner for a short visit before return
ing home.
Mr. and Mrs. Thos. McLaugh
lin, instructors of the Monument
high school, lett Wednesday eve
ning for Portland to spend the
holidays.
Miss Carolyn Asher returned to
here home Saturday. She has
been attending school in Califor
nia. Both the students and teach
ers of Monument high are in
hopes she will resume her studies
here. Last, year Miss Asher took
an active part in all school af
fairs, especially sports.
Miss Joan Roach, student at
Eastern Oregon college in La
Grande, spent the holidays at
home. She attended the dance
Thursday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Miles Gilman and
Mr. and Mrs. Willard Gilman
drove to Baker to spend Thanks
giving holidays with Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Pope and children
They returned home Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Lindell Broadfoot
Mrs. Dane Broadfoot and Mrs.
Carmel Broadfoot left for Mis
souri Saturday Dane Broadfoot
expects to go later and return
with them.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Holmes
left last week for Sacramento
to spend Thanksgiving with rela
tives.
Laura Lee Shank, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Shank, cele
brated her birthday on Nov. 19
with a big rjinner. Guests besides
her family were Mrs. Betty
Round, Mr. and Mrs. Tunis Round
and daughter Ireta Ann of Long
Creek. In the afternoon several
of her playmates joined her to
play games.
Rex Sweek has been ill at his
home for the past week.

Fayne Ely, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Franklin D. Ely of lone, was one
of 13 men who pledged Phi Beta
Tau, Pacific university fraternity,
during rush week which ended
Friday.
Ely, a sophomore business ma
jor, is a graduate of lone high
school where he played football,
basketball, and baseball, was a
member of the lettermen's club,
and sports editor for the school
paper,

Heppner district, together with
their wives, gathered at the
Whitmer Wright home Friday
evening for a farewell party for
Mr. and Mrs. Anson Rugg who
left the following day for their
new home In walla Walla.
