Manitenance Leaders
Take Short Course
Four-H club tractor mainten
ance leaders returned to xneir
homes Friday after attending a
five day clinic at Oregon State
college in Corvallis.
Representing Morrow county
were Bryce Keene, lone, Ralph
Skoubo, Boardman and Marvin
Wightman, Heppner.
The first half of the session
was devoted to training first year
leaders, and the last half was an
advanced course for second year
leaders. According to Cal Monroe,
4-H extension agent, statewide
interest in the program has ne
cessitated a . stepped-up leader
training program. The clinic just
completed was the third and
longest held in Oregon since the
program was launched a year
ago. Organized primarily to edu
cate boys in the proper care of
tractors and other motorized
farm equipment,. Monroe estim
ates nearly 500 Oregon 4-H club
members will be participating in

Oregon State college agricultural
engineering department and the
extension service.
BROTHER DIES IN MISSOURI
Mrs. S. H. Shannon reported
the death of her brother, David
Cooley, in Lucerne, Mo., Novem
ber 7. His death occurred two
years to the day from the time
Mrs. Shannon left his home to
return to Heppner after an ex
tended visit in the middle west.
Mr. Cooley and his twin brother
celebrated their 80th birthday in
April. Death resulted from a
stroke which he suffered early In
October.
