Monument Hi Share
At Grant Co. Fair
Five Blue Ribbons
The high school will sponsor a
dance and supper at the gym
Oct. 7. This will innaugurate the
first of a series.
Monument high school walked
off with five blue ribbonsat the
Grant county fair. Darlene Boyer
and Gary Greggs were awarded
firsts on Projects in U. S. history
and world geography. Additional
awards were won on a map by
the sophomore class in world his
tory, artwork by Anita Moore
and Rhoene Bleakman, and the
high school paper took first. The
latier awara was not surprising
as it won state honors. Mrs. Es
ther McLaughlin, the instructor
and the stuuenls merit praise.
The KEA line men from Hep.
Pner came to Monument Thurs
day to rewire the town. The wo
men of Monument under the di
rection of Mrs. Floss Gilman and
Mrs. Edna Moore served a pot
luck dinner and supper Thurs
day and Friday noon for the
workers. The people of Monu
ment are thankful for this work.
They now have good lights and
plenty of power.
Mr. and Mrs. Tunis Round,
daughter Ireta Ann, and his mo
ther, Mrs. Betty Round visited re
latives in Monument Sunday.

Bellenbrock to Monument Friday.
She was an over night guest of
Mrs. Grace Stirritt and Mrs. Lola
Shank. She went on to John Day
with Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Shank

Hood River spent the week at the
Stirritt home. He was here to do
repair work on his store building
which he has leased to Mrs.
Montgomery.
Mr. and Mrs. Archie Adams
and Mr. and Mrs. Jones of Clats-
kanie visited Mr. and Mrs. Geo.
Stirritt and Mrs. Lola Shank on
Monday. They were returning to
their home after a visit at the
Mr. and Mrs. Bud Engle and
Mrs. Ruby Geinger of Cottonwood
drove to Hermiston Friday to at
tend funeral services for Mrs,
Bngles' aunt.
Mrs. Lottie Foss of Boise spent
the week in Monument visiting
her daughter, Mrs. Steven Hol
mes and her mother, Mrs. Josie
Round. Mrs. Foss returned to her
home Sunday.
Word was received by Mrs.
Mattie Stubblefield of the death
of her sister, Mrs. Dovie Fields
in Portland. Funeral services for
her will be held in Monument.
Rush Crabtree is visiting his
sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs.
Clyde Jackson.
Mrs. Goldie Rounds has been
sick with the flu.
Monument will now have a
picture show every Sunday night
Thomas McLaughlin and Glen
Legler brought in two nice four
pointers Sunday night. Several
report getting a deer on the op
ening day.
Mr. and Mrs. Ned Sweek of
Heppner came to Monument on
Sunday to get their small son
Mike who came Friday to visit
his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Rex Sweek. Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Bellenbrock brought them over.
Mr. and Mrs. Dewey SPurgeon
are the proud parents of a baby
boy born at Pioneer Memorial
hospital in Heppner Friday. Mrs,
Spurgeon is doing nicely but the
baby win have to remain in tne
incubator for a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Durst spent
Thursday and Friday visiting
relatives and friends in Round
Basin.
Lynn Forrest was suffering
from a lame back this week. Earl
Lewis drove him to John Day on
Friday where he received med
ical aid.
Mrs. Ivy Barnard- accompanied
Mrs. Katie Hinton and her dau
ghter Alene to John Day Satur
day where they attended to mat
ters of business.
Leland Stewart and friends of
Eugene were greeting friends in
'Monument the fore Part of the
week. They are here to enjoy
some hunting. The Stewarts are
Creek spent the week with her
building a new home in Eugent.
Mrs. Leona Claude of Long
son and family, Mr. and Mrs.
Oarl Sweek. Mrs. Claude stayd
With Mrs. Sweek while Earl en
joyed a few days of hunting.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Settle and
daughter, Mrs. Willard Gilman,
were attending to matters of bu
siness and doing some shopping
Tuesday in Pendleton.
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Rowton
have moved from the Mantis
house to the Leo Flower ranch
helnw town. Mrs. Rowton will i
keep house for her husband and school.

in La Grande attending normal
