Six Year Old Boy
At Lexington Is
Paralysis Victim

The Amicitia club met at the
home of Mrs. Eldon Padberg one
night last week. Pinochle was
played with Mrs. Dean Hunt
winning traveling prize, Mrs.
Maurice Groves high and Mrs.
Robert Davidson low.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Palmer
returned home Sunday after a
week spent in Portland where
they took their young son Joseph
last Sunday night. At present Joe
seems to be on the road to recov
ery. He is six years old and took
sick at his home. His mother
rushed him to Heppner where
she was advised to take him to
Portland. It was pronounced po
lio in the hospital there.
Mr. and Mrs. Millard Nolan
and children Vern and Beverley
and Earl Miller were visitors at
Maryhill Museum Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. William Fillmore
of Waitsburg were visitors Sun
day at the C. C. Jones home. Mr.
Fillmore will drill a well in Con
don. He spent some time in Lex
ington when the city was drilling
its well.
Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Padberg
spent some time in Portland last
week.
The H. E. C. of Lexington
grange held a surprise stork
shower honoring Mrs. Norman
Nelson at her home last Thurs
day. The Three Links club met at
the home of Mrs. Earl Warner
Tuesday afternoon. They set the
date of their annual bazaar and
dinner for election day in No
vember. A committee was ap
pointed to investigate buying
chairs for the Rebekah hall.

children of Lake City Calif, have
bee nvisiting her sister, Mrs. O.
G. Breeding and brothers, Wilbur

day morning to get medical
checkups. They returned, the
same day.
A stork shower was given in
honor of Mrs. Cloia Spurgeon.
Mrs. Pauline Cutts had an inter
esting fortune game for the la-1
dies to take part in, after which
Mrs. Spurgeon opened her gifts.
Mrs. Mary DuBosch decorated a
very pretty cake in honor of the
baby-to-be. She also dressed a
little doll for the centerpiece of
the table that held the presents.
The hostesses, Mattie Stubble
field, Pearl Stubblefield, LaVon
ne West, Mary DuBosch and oth
ers served cake and ice cream as
refreshments.
The many friends of Mr. and
Mrs. Steve Holmes gathered at
their home Friday evening for
an old fashioned charivari. Much
fun was had and it was in the
wee small hours before the party
broke up.
Mrs. Chance Wilson drove to
Echo Sunday to visit her daugh
ter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Homer Williams, and daughters,
Joyce and Linda.

spent the weekend in La Grande.
A family picnic was held on
the lawn of the George Steagall
home Sunday with the following

Mrs. Wilbur Steagall and family,
Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Breeding and
family, Buster Shoun, Mrs. Dave

Mrs. Bill Mathews and son Jay
of Tendleton and the hosts.

Mrs. Ethel Adams and daugh
ter Nancy returned home Wed
nesday after an extended visit at
Kellogg, Ida. Mrs. Adams was
gone a month and Nancy spent
two months, one with her sister.
Miss Betty Adams on the campus
at Bozeman, Mont., and the oth
er with Mr. and Mrs. John Roscoe
(nee Clarabell Adams) at Kel
logg. Mrs. Adams went to Kel
logg to be with Mrs. Roscoe and
help welcome Kathy Jean, the
six and one-half pound baby girl
born July 3.
C. R. McAlister and son Wel
come, who is visiting here from
Mt. Carmel, Pa., drove to Port
land week before last and pick
ng up C. R.'s brother and wife,
Mr. and Mrs. Marshall McAlister,
went on to Napa, Calif., to visit
Harvey McAlister (Pap Hayseed)
who is a resident of California's
soldiers' home. They found "Pap"
in good spirits and fairly good
health. The Lexington men re
turned home Wednesday and
