Burvill Corbins Lose
House, Contents In
Fire at Moument
Mr. and Mrs. Burvill Corbin
had the misfortune to lose their
home and household furnishings
by fire Wednesday of last week.
They were living in the George
Mantis house which was entirely
destroyed. The Corbins have not
fully decided as to where they
will find a new residence.
The special election was held
in the grange hall in Monument
June 29. Only 39 votes were cast.
The measure carried by a small
margin in this precinct. Ballot
boxes in Monument, Kitter, Long
Creek and Fox were gathered up
by Mrs. Chance Wilson and de
livered to the county clerk, John
ny Liveria. There was a light
vote all over the county.
Word has been received by
Theo Owing that Ruth Sweek has
been quite ill in the hospieal at
Oregon City. She is now conva
lescing at the home of her sister
in West Linn. Her many friends
in Monument wish her a speedy
recovery.
Last Monday the 4-H clubbers
took their purebred heifers to the
Bert Allison ranch near Mount
Vernon. Those going from here
were Darlene Capon, Bucky Flo
wers, John Roach and Charles
Roach Jr. They were accompan
ied by their parents, Doris Ca
pon and Clara Flowers. Mrs. Al-
ilison served ice cream and cake.

Owens, Dixie Stubblefield and
Johnnie Musgrave have them this
week.

Monument Cattle association at
the home of George Caporr last
Wednesday. Glenn Parsons of
Heppner met with the board.
Emory Moore took the Junior
League baseball team to Mitchell
Thursday to play the Mitchell
team.
Earl Sweek. Clayton Sweek and
Evelyn Fuzik were in John Day
Thursday attending to matters
oi business. Clayton kept an ap
pointment with his dentist.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Round took
his mother, Mrs. Josie Round, and
his sister, Mrs. Mamie Ferguson
to John Day Tuesday for medical
checkups.
