Republicans Meet
And Organize For
Coming Campaign
Realizing that work will be
needed in the forthcoming state
election, Chairman George N. Ely
of lone called a meeting of com
mitteemen and committeewomen,
as well as interested party mem
bers, at the Elkhorn restaurant
Monday evening and effected an
organization to carry on party
activity during the campaign.
Mr. Ely had hoped that he
might be relieved of the job as
chairman but could not convince
other members of the group that
they should elect someone in his
place. In the election that fol
lowed discussion relative to or
ganization, he was re-elected to
the post. Mrs. Bradley Fancher
was chosen as vice-chairman;
Mrs. Omar Rietmann as secre
tary, and Omar Rietmann as
treasurer. Monday evening, July
10 was chosen as the date of the
next meeting with the Elkhorn
as the meeting place, at which
time the chairman will make his
committee assignments.
Because of harvest activities
and other matters claiming the
attention of the people it was
decided to defer active campaign
work until the first of September.
Several of those present expres
sed their views relative to the
state campaign, stressing the
need for work in behalf of the
Republican nominees for gov
ernor and congress.

TELEPHONES
1. In the ten busiest years we ever had, the West's
population jumped more than fifty per cent. Tele
phone service grew even faster ... the number of
telephones at work in the West has doubled. And
we built this new system in the face of inflated
postwar costs. ..for we can't, in contrast with most
businesses, defer the addition of plant just because
the cost is high.
3. As a part of a bigger system, your telephone
is a bigger value today.. .particularly when you con
sider the low rates you pay for service. Long dis
tance telephone rates actually decreased between
1940 and 1946. And, while the increases in local
and long distance rates since 1946 vary, the average
for the territory we serve has been only 27 per cent.
Your telephone still gives you a big value for your
budget dollar. It's one of today's best bargains.
Pacific Telephone
2. You may never call this particular telephone...
but it's pretty certain you will want to call or hear
from some of the telephones we're adding. As the
West grows, new people come into your town . . .
others move their homes and businesses ... so it is
necessary for us to do our best to keep pace with the
growth of your community to make sure you can call
whom you want, when you want.
