In accordance with the provisions of the "Local Budget Law" (Sections 110-1201 to 110-1215, O.C.L.A., as amended) notice is hereby given that the
budget committee of Morrow County, Oregon, in compliance with said law, prepared and adopted on April 28, 1950, the budget estimates for Morrow County,
Oregon, for the ensuing fiscal year July 1, 1950 to June 30, 1951, as set forth in the accompanying schedules. All persons are hereby notified that on Thursday, the 8th
day of June, 1950, at 10 A. M., in the County Judge's office at the Court House in Heppner, Oregon, said budget estimates may be discussed with the County Court,
the levying board for said Morrow County, Oregon, and any person subject to the proposed tax levy or tax levies will be heard in favor of or against said tax levy or
tax levies or any part thereof.
The outstanding indebtedness of Morrow County, Oregon, at May 1, 1950, consisted of $85,000.00 in serial road bonds.

Metzler were at the next table.
Hugh B. Snyder was helping run
the cotfee line from an impro
vised kitchen to the pavilion
where the guests were served.
Each in turn sent greetings to
Heppner friends.
From LaGrande the editorial
family went to Cove where the
younger members had great sport
in the crowded swimming pool.
Before leaving the mountain
country lunch was eaten in the
late afternoon at Emigrant park,
Then on to Heppner and the
Baccalaureate-service at the high
school.

July 10, 1859 at Wellsville N. Y.,
the son of Clark N. and Eunice
Symonds Briggs. In 18b the
tamily moved to saiem, uiegun
and four years later, 1872, came
to that part of Umatilla county
nrau omhrarpri In Morrow countv.
The family then moved to Weston
Mountain where Leon resided
until he attained the age oi M
years. He lived a short time in
Vancouver, Wash., then came to
Alkali, now Arlington, returning
to Heppner in issi 10 worn in
the general store owned Dy wen
rv Hpnnnpr and Henrv Blackman.
Throughout his long life here he
was employed in various dusi-
nesses requiring tne services oi
a hnnkkppner. Hp served as HeoD-
ner city treasurer and was coun
ty treasurer at the time oi nis
passing, a position he held for
many years. He was a charter
member ot Heppner louge ino.
69, A.F.&A.M. which was insti
tuted 70 years ago. He also was
a long time member and faith
ful servant of the Methodist
church.
In 1886. Mr. Briggs was mar
ried to Hannah French, who pre
ceded him in death in December
1939. To this union was born
Eunice Ruth, who lost her life
in the June 14, 1903 flood; Opal
Dell Briggs and Loa (Mrs. Ray
Taylor), who survive, and Julius
French Briees. who died in 1922.
Other survivors include five
grandsons, two great grandsons,
and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Creswick
returned Wednesday from Port
land where they spent Monday
and Tuesday attending a meet
ing of the Funeral Directors of
Oregon at the Multnomah hotel.

NAMED FOR YEAR AHEAD
New officers for the ensuing
year were elected by the Ameri
can Legion auxiliary at their
meeting May 16. Guiding the
destinies of the organization as
recently chosen are Mrs. Kemp
Dick, President; Mrs. Jack Bail
ey, 1st vice president; Mrs. Wm.
Heath, 2nd vice president; Mrs.
Wm. Labhart, secretary-tressurer;
Mrs. Wm. Padberg, sgt. at arms;
Mrs. Richard Wells, historian;
Mrs. Earl Evans, Mrs. Alex
Thompson and Mrs. Wm. Rich
ards executive committee.
A Mother's Day program was
presented by the junior members
of the auxiliary under the guid
ance of Mrs. Labhart. Refresh
ments were served at the close
of the meeting by Mrs. Wm. Van
Winkle, Mrs. Wm. Picker and
Mrs. Kenneth Klinger.

STYLE SHOW SATURDAY
A tea and style show were
given Saturday afternoon by the
American Legion auxiliary in the
Legion hall. Styles of the modern
trend as well as those of olden
days were modeled for the pleas
ure of the guests. The garments
were furnished by Anderson and
Wilson, Norah's and J. C Pen
ney Co., flowers by Mary Van's
Flower Shop. Mrs. Wm. Labhart
was commentator.
Door prizes were contributed
by Case Furniture Co., Alice's
Beauty Shop. Gilliam and Bisbee,
Heppner Hardware & Electric
Co., and Marshall Wells store.
Throughout the afternoon Miss
Virginia Bender played the piano.
Presiding at the tea table were
Mrs. Harold Cohn and Mrs. Gene
Ferguson. -

The officer said he hoped the
drivers would continue the im
provement to include all cross
ings, remembering that it is ex
pected of them to show respect
for pedestrians at every regularly
marked crossing.
