OREGON SCHOOLS GROWING
The increase in public school
enrollment is keeping up with
Oregon's increase in population.
This is an extraordinary condi
tion in growing communities in
the West. During the 1948-1949
school year enrollment was 272,
804, State Superintendent Rex
Putnam declares. This is an in
crease of 12,000 over the previ
ous year. Elementary school stu
dents accounted for 10,000 of the
gain and high school students
for 2000.
