Kinzua This Week

The Kinzua teaching staff left
Thursday morning for The Dalles
where they attended the two-day
institute. They returned Satur
day. Snow again this week covered
the ground in Kinzua, and the
night temperature was cold.
Deer hunters took advantage of
the breakdown Thursday morn
ing to get Into the woods and
have a few extra hours of hunt
ing. Work was resumed Friday
morning.

and Lud Smith were hostesses for
a bridal shower given at the hall
Friday evening honoring Dorothy
Hoover, who became the bride of
Bill Edwards of Fossil, Sunday.
The honoree received many beau
tiful gifts. Refreshments were
served.
Mrs. Ed Wham, Mrs. Harlan
Schroeder of here and Mrs. Don
ald Bird and sister Georgie Lee
Hoover of Fossil spent several
days in Portland shopping and
visiting.
Mrs. Leland Brisbois attended
funeral services at Spray last
week for Mrs. John Asher, known
by many in Morrow county as
Alice Shown. She was a teacher
in the Hardman vicinity years
ago. She passed away in Califor
nia while taking care of a sick
brother, and her body was return
ed to Spray, her home.
Nelson Murphy took his small
son Bobby to The Dalles where he
was treated for what was believ
ed to be appendicitis.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Beard are the
parents of a son born October 13
at The Dalles. He has been named
Claude Dean and tipped the beam
at six pounds.
Mrs. Harve Boyer and her dau
ghter Marjorie Terry returned
home this week-end from Port
land. Mrs. Terry has been receiv
ing treatments at a hospital for
the past three weeks. Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Johnson and children
of Beaverton brought them home.
He got In some hunting and took
a buck home.
Mrs. Lamar Flack was visiting
here Wednesday from Fossil. Mrs.
Flack's husband and son are em
ployed here.
Pop Denton of Condon was at
tending to business here the first
of the week.
James Brannon and Ruben
Medlock of Heppner were here
Thursday visiting relatives and
friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hines and
Ginger were week-end guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Homer Davis at
Lone Rock.
Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Jobe and
children of Pendleton were visit
ing at the home of his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Jobe over
the week end. Tommy did some
hunting.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Orwick
and baby spent the week-end at
Heppner visiting his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Roy Orwick.

Monument Woman
Bags 5-Point Buck
On First lime Out

Mrs. Eunice Round is our cham
pion huntress in the Monument
community. The first day she
hunted she bagged a big five
point buck.
Mr. and Mrs. Sylvanus Wright
and ther daughter and husband,
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Matlock of The
Dalles are spending a week visit,
ing and hunting. Mr. Wright is
an uncle of Mrs. Ed Round and
Mrs. Wright is a sister of Roy
Munkers.
Mr. and Mrs. Miles Gilman
spent the week-end with ther
daughter and her husband, Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Pope in Baker.
Johnnie Cox who has been
working for Hans Hansen, took a
few days off and visited in Monument.
Rev. and Mrs. Sidney Harris
drove to Burns Tuesday to attend
Presbytery. The Harrises had a
their infant daughter that had to
be in the incubator at The Dalles
home this week. She is reported
to be doing all right.
Mr. and Mrs. 1. Armstrong are
spending several days in Port
land on business concerning an
auto accident on the 4th of July
a year ago.
Mrs. J. B. Dyer was in The Dal
les Saturday where she received
medical attention.
Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Strobel
and children of Bend were house
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Marion
(Slip) Wright over the week-end.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Halverson
were in Hood River over the week
end.
Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Adams
and family spent the week-end in
Heppner, taking Mrs. Victor Lov
gren home after a visit here Fri
day night.
Mrs. Charles Johnson and sister
Mrs. Ernest Lear of Condon spent
several days in Portland this
week. While away Mrs. Nuby
took care of Mrs. Johnson's chil
dren. Mr. and Mrs. Owen H. Leathers
Sr. spent the week-end at the
hunting camp on Wall creek set
up by Mr. and Mrs. Otto Leathers
and Marvin Glasscock of Vancou
ver, Wash, and Mr. and Mrs. C. C.
Carmichael of Lexington.

many interesting things to relate.
They especially enjoyed the quar
tet of Indian boys from Tumulta.
Their pastor, Sam Lee, is a Kor
ean. The Harrises returned home
Frday.
Mr. and Mrs. Gran and son and
Mrs. Mayday (Lewis) Howell of
Gresham stopped on ther way
through town to greet their old
time friends, the Barnards. Mrs.
Howell spent her girlhood days
near Hamilton and will be re
membered by many of the older
people. The party was on its way
to Fox Valley to enjoy some deer
hunting before the season closes.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Pickens
and daughter Effe Gail, and mo
ther, Mrs. Tillie Pickens of Spring
field spent several days visiting
and hunting in and near Monu
ment. While here they were house
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Barn
ard and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Durst.
Mrs. Tillie Pickens is an aunt of
Mrs. Durst and Mrs. Barnard.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cork and son
of Clatskanie were week-end
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Cork. They enjoyed some hunting
while here.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Payne of
Hermiston called on Mrs. George
Stirritt and Mrs. Fred Shank on
Monday. They were on their way
to Long Creek.
Mrs. Ella Durst, Mrs. Ivy Barn
ard, Mrs. Tillie Pickens, Mrs.
Wayne Pickens and daughter, Ef
fie Gail, and Mrs. Katie Hinton
drove to Pendleton Friday. They
spent the day shopping.
Mr. and Mrs. Homer Rhose and
son Mitchell of DeLake spent the
week-end with Mrs. Rhose's par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Forrest.
Mr. Rhose spent Saturday hunt
ing and was lucky enough to be
able to take a nice buck home
with him.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Barnard, Mrs.
Ella Durst and their aunt, Mrs.
Tillie Pickens, spent Thursday
visiting the Theron Kings on Cot
tonwood and the Floy Hintons at
Hamlton.
George Stirritt is home for the
winter. He has been employed by
the forest service at John Day.
Clayton Sweek drove to Canyon
City Wednesday to have his fin
ger prints taken. He will be em
ployed by the Geological Survey.
He was accompanied by Mrs. Mil
lie Wilson who attended to mat
ters of business in the county
school superintendent's office.
Mrs. Janice Cork and children,
Mrs. Fay Cork, Mr. and Mrs.
Chance Wilson and Mrs. Harriet
Batty and mother were callers at
the Lynn Forrest home Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Nick Bonifiach of
Fox spent Sunday visiting Mr.
and Mrs. Ed Rounds.
Jack Sweek and his mother,
Mrs. Fayre Sweek. drove to Port
land Wednesday. Mrs. Sweok was
a delegate to the American Leg
ion auxiliary meeting which was
held there this week.
Mrs. Laura Simas enjoyed hav
ing her two daughters and grand
children of La Grande spend the
past week with her. They left for
their homes Sunday.
