Taylor, student at the University of Oregon, will enter his senior year this fall. He was elected ed itor of the Emerald, student daily publication which he served as sports editor the past year, and will work in the city this sum mer. He also served two and one half years in the army as a para- I trooper, most of the time over seas. Miss Young is also a stud ent at the university and will be entering her senior year this fall. Mr. and Mrs. Mack Duff and three children of Duluth, Minn, who have been visiting her bro thers, Clifford and and Ray Gon rjuist, left for Portland and coast points Monday, Clifford Gron quist going as far as Portland with them. Mrs. Clifford Poole and Mrs. Morris Tarbaugh returned Thurs-, day from Vancouver, B. C. after a few days vacationing. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hardy and children of La Grande stop ped for a short time with Mrs. Hardy's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nickerson, on their return from attending the Rose Show. Ralph Skoubo motored to Hep ipner Thursday to attend the I county fair board meeting. He (was accompanied by Mrs. Skou- DO. Arthur Chaffee and his mother, Mrs. May Chaffee, motored to Pendleton Wednesday. Ladies Aid Missionary society met Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Charles Eble. Many ladies were present, also Rev. and Mrs. A. C. Hawley of Boise, Idaho. Mrs. Eble served refreshments. Mrs. Katherine Dunn and son Reo of South Whittier, Calif, ar rived last week and will spend the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Ewing motored to Walla Walla Wed nesday. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Briggs left Saturday for a ten-day vacation in Portland and coast points. While gone Mrs. Briggs will at tend a VFW convention in Coos Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mulligan and daughter Judy went as far as Portland with them where lit tle Judy was to have a medical examination. Mrs. Earl Briggs and Mrs. R. A. Fortner motored to Pendleton Wednesday. Recent guesis of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wyss were their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Pirn Pieper and infant son of Portland. Mrs. Aigy Taylor, son Bobbie and granddaughter Toni left Sat urday for Portland and will re main until after David Taylor's wedding. Recent guests at the R. A. Fort ner home were Mr. and Mrs. James Driscoll and family of Heppner, going from here to Con don for a few days before return ing homo. Their son Tommy is at the home of his grandparents for a while. LaDean and Claudia Risley of Sheridan are spending several weeks here with their grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs. Claud Worden. Guests last week at the home of Mrs. Blanche Jones were Mrs. Phil Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Harmon and family of Hcrmislon and Mr. and Mrs. Orville Jones of Portland. The Teleweld Company, Inc. foreman, Ed Payback, left Thurs day for Cascade Locks after sev eral weeks in Boardman. Local boys going with the gang were Carl Miles, Dick Colclesser and Dow Worden. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Fortner and Grandson, Tommy Driscoll, mo tored to Heppner Sunday to spend Father's Day with Mrs. Forlner's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lucas. Mrs. Frank Cole had as her I guest last week her nephew, Sgt. Douglass Pew, stationed with the Air Corps in Honolulu. He was enroute to see his mother in Portland. Saturday visitors nt the W. L. Blann home were Mrs. A. R. Rob erts of Portland, Ms. Joe Sabuco and daughter Jari of Umatilla and Mr. and Mrs. C. Clark of Hermiston. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cole and Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Potts were the Rev. A. C. Hawley and wife of Boise, Idaho, and Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Blann. Sunday guests of Mr. and ids. Charles Stoltnow were Mr. Stolt now's son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Seale and son, also Mr. and Mrs. Leo Barnett and son, Condon, and Mr. and Mrs. Sid Cooper of Mikkalo. The group went for a picnic on the banks of the Umatilla river In the after noon. Mr. and Ms. Russell DeMauro left Saturday for Portland to at tend the wedding Sunday of Miss Gilbert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Gilbert. Roy Gilbert resided on the project several years ago and is a brother of Mrs. Paul DeMauro. The Rev. A. C. Hawley of Boise who has preached the past two Sundays at the Community church left Monday morning for home. Mrs. Hawley was here with him. Mr. and Mrs. Z. J. Gillespie and son Donald returned home Fri day evening after a week s vaca tion in Wendall, Idaho with rel atives. Gillespie's father, Ed Gil lespie, returned with them for a visit before returning to his home in California. Mrs. Ed Skoubo was honored on her birthday Sunday by a dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Skoubo. Others present were her husband and Mr. and Mrs. I. Skoubo. Mr. and Mrs. Nate Maconmuei and grandson Gary Pctteys mo tored to Grandvlew Sunday and brought home many pounds of cherries.
