Those graduating from high school were Mary Holtz, Helen Fay Baker, Clifford Aldrich, Wal ter Bergstrom, Fayne Ely, Hel muth Hermann, Gene Ransier, Arthur Warren. Graduating from the eighth grade were Margaret Hubbard. Joan Coleman, Wilda Dalzell, r r.ra McCov, Donald Bristow, James Morgan, ,Rudy Bergstrom, Phirlee MeGreer, Charles Aldrich, Ralph Kincaid and Herbert Eks- trom. Dedication of the St. William's Catholic church was held at 10 ! a. m., with the Rev. Leo Febian j Fahey. coadjutor Bishop of Ba ker, officiating. The ceremony in eluded blessing of the church and laying of the cornerstone Father Francis MeCormack celebrated a solemn high mass of dedication. Music was provided by the St Joseph's Academy choir of Pen dleton. A luncheon was served to the visiting priests, members and friends by the Ladies Altar So ciety of lone. Over 100 people were served. The members of St. William's church wish to thank all of those who helped to build the church and for the beautiful flowers that were given and assistance in the dedication, a bouquet of iris in the dining room, grown by Mr. and Mrs M. E. Cotter, was from seed produced in the Vatican gar dens in Rome. Visiting priests were Father Healy, Hood River; Father Fer gus, Hermiston; Father McTig. Prineville; Father Degman, Du- fur, and Father Delahunter, Ba ker. Mrs. Ernest Heliker visited at the Veterans hospital in Walla Walla Thursday of last week. A bridal shower was given in honor of Miss June Griffith at the Legion hall Saturday after noon. She received many lovely and useful gifts. Miss Griffith will be married to Dwight Hau gen June 10 at the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian church in Portland. Hostesses at the shower were Mrs. Roy Lindstrom. Mrs. David Baker, Mrs. Walter Dobyns, Mrs. Pete Cannon, Mrs. Delmar Crawford, and Mrs. Tad Miller. Mrs. Leon ard Stract helped with the gifts. The boys will undergo ton sillectomies Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Aldrich and daughter Eleanor, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Lundquist and son of Hermiston were here for gradua tion exercises. Mr. and Mrs. Tad Hardesty of Portland were week-end visitors at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dobyns. Mr. and Mrs. G. V. Crumb and Mrs. Marie Crumb of Morton, Wash, were visitors at the Noel Dobyns home over the week-end. Walter Dobyns and Delbert Emert were Portland visitors last week. W. A. Hayes of Sunnyvale, Calif, returned to lone with them. The mothers of the first, sec ond, seventh and eighth grade pupils gave a dinner Wednesday evening of last week in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hamilton Jr. The social group of the Topic club met at the home of Mrs. Roy Lindstrom Friday. Bridge and pi nochle were played. Those win ning prizes included, bridge high, Mrs. Bert Mason; low, Mrs. M. E. Cotter; Jack high, Mrs. Francis Ely. Pinochle high, Mrs. Sam Mc Millan, low, Mrs. Verner Troed son; 300 pinochle, Mrs. Clifford Carlson. The hostesses were Mrs. Lindstrom, Mrs. Verner Troedson and Mrs. C. W. Swanson. Ross Doherty, student at Whit man college, spent the week-end with his mother, Mrs. Rose Doh erty. Hostesses at the social hour of the Eastern Star Tuesday evening of last week were Mrs. Walter Roberts, Mrs. Carl Bergstrom and Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom. The Masonic hall has been re- roofed during the past week. Mrs. Carl Linn has been elected to teach the seventh and eighth grades here the coming year. Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Ely are vis iting relatives in Portland and vicinity Mrs. Wallace Matthews is vis iting in Roseburg. Mrs. Erickson and Mrs. Ransier are sister and mother of John Ran sier. a Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Forsythe were pleasantly surprised the ev ening of May 26 when their friends, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. El hart of Ashland arrived during the graduation program. The El harts were returning from a, visit with relatives in Idaho and were overnight guests of the Forsythes. Mrs. Ida Coleman and daugh ters Susan and Annabell are spending this week with Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Crawford (Jean Cole man) in Portland. Mrs. Echo Palmateer and her sister, Mrs Hazel Beers of Eagle Creek left for Portland Sunday morning with Mrs. Palmateer's daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Stract of San Fran cisco. Later the party plans to vist Crater Lake. However, many farmers have their first cutting of hay in the shocks. Some farmers baled find are through with this cut ting. Five 4-H members are able to attend the 4-H summer school at Corvallis. Going will be Grace Miller, Marlene Fisk, Viola Wor den, Marlyn Barham and Wilma Hug. John Mulligan of Albany spent a few days with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mulligan. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pieper of North Bend stopped for a short visit with the Walter Wyss's. The Piepers were returning home dri. ving a new car from the east. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Briggs re turned home Monday after sev eral days spent in Portland and nearby points. While away Mrs. Briggs attended several VFW meetings. Master Clyde Tannehill and Mrs. Tannehill are the Pomona grange delegates to state grange to be held at Coos Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Miller are the dele gates going from Greenfield grange. Mrs. Frank Cole was called to Portland last week due to illness 0 fher aged mother. While away Mrs. Cole planned to go to Olym pia, Wash, for Memorial Day Darwin Gillespie high school coach the past year, is not re turning in the fall. He has em ployment as scientist in one of the Eugene high schools. Mr. Roche, who was Ione's star pitcher for a number of years, was greeted by many old friends. The Roches were on their way home from a 6,000-mile tour through the nor thern, eastern and southern states. They were guests at a Rietmann family gathering at the Victor Rietmann home Mon day, May 30. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. Victor Peterson and family of The Dalles, Mr. and Mrs. David Rietmann and family, Mr. and Mrs. Werner Rietmann, Walter Rietmann and Mr. and Mrs. Omar Rietmann and sons. The Paul Pettyjohns returned Saturday from a trip to Portland. with her daughter, Miss Joan Mc Kenna, who was English teacher in high shcool the past year. Miss McKenna is planning to teach nearer her home next winter. Week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Brown were Mrs. Brown's sister, Mrs. Myrtle De- Maris, also her niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Clayton of Walla Walla. Mrs. Vet Conyers left Sunday for San Rafael, Calif, where she will visit a week with her son in. law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Brown. From there she will go on to Fresno for a month's stay with another son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Norpel. Mr. Conyers will Join her this week. Mrs. Andrew Vannoy of Olympia will have charge of the hotel while the Conyers are away. It was on the Day of Pentecost, seven weeks after the resurrection of Christ that the Apostle Peter preached the first Gospel sermon.
