County Agent News . .
Many farmers throughout the
county are finding that wheat
fields which appeared to be weed-
free earlier this soring have with
in the past two weeks turned out
to be very weedy. Many of these
fields are now being sprayed with
2,4-D. The weather we have had
the past two weeks has been
ideal for spraying and some very
good kills are being made.
While tarweed, the major weed
problem, normally, is very scarce
this spring, the mustards and fil
arees are doing well. Tansy mus
tard is showing up throughout
the county, and while it is one of
the weeds more resistant to 2,4-D,
good kills are reported.
One half to three-quarter
pounds of acid is being used
with an average of about eight
gallons of water per acre being
applied with ground equipment.
At least one commercial airplane
service is operating in the coun
ty and is using approximately
three gallons per acre.
Through the efforts of Bob
Fletcher, field secretary, Pacific
Northwest Crop Improvement as
sociation, several grain grading
and variety identification sclioms
have been arranged for in Ore
gon, Washington and Idaho.
Such a school is being held at
Arlington on Tuesday, April 19.
It will be held at the Braden Trac
tor and Equipment show rooms
beginning at 10 a.m.
The purpose of the school is to ,
acquaint elevator operators, I
growers, and agricultural educa- j
tors with the present grain grad-
ing standards and their proper
application, proper sampling,
