Songs, recitations and exercises were given by the beginners and primary classes, a candle lighting ceremony was given by the junior and intermed iate classes. Several numbers were sung by the choir and Miss Mary Lund sang a solo. The following program was given at Willows grange Satur day with Mrs. Ernest Heliker in charge: A candlelight ceremony by Joan Coleman, Barbara Jack son and Jane Seehafer. During the ceremony Miss Mary Lund sang a solo; readings were given by Sue and Annbelle Coleman, Alice Kay Mason, Billy and Mil dred Seehafer, Johnny Swanson, Joan Turner and Linda Halvor sen; Rev. Alfred Shirley gave a talk, and Miss Lund sang "O Holy Night." A Christmas pan tomime was given by Mrs. Mar ion Palmer and Mrs. Lewis Hal vorsen with Mrs. Hershall Town send as reader. Bullard have sold their drug store at Gold Beach and plan to go to Arizona for a vacation. The Bullards had a drug store here several years ago. After the busine.si meet ing luncheon was served from tables decorated with Christmas candles and gifts were exchanged revealing their Pollyanna sisters. Mrs. Francis Ely received the door prize. After the Rebekah lode Thurs day evening, Dec. 17, a Christmas party was given. Games were played and gifts exchanged. Lunch of sandwiches, cake and coffee were served. Those on the general committee were Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn, Mrs. Wallace Matthews and Mrs. Ida Coleman. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Howell and Mr. and Mrs. Al Huit of Heppner were lone visitors Saturday eve ning. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Heliker adopted a three months old boy last week. His name is Eugene Darrell. Mrs. Markham Baker and Mrs. Echo Palmateer entertained their Sunday school classes at the Grange hall Friday evening of last week. After playing games and exchanging gifts, refresh ments of sandwiches, cookies ana cocoa were served. The children also received treats. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Mat thews were Pendleton visitors Monday. West Wishes to You All 22.527 VETERANS ON JOB TRAINING AND IN COLLEGES OF OREGON Three years after V J Day, 22, 527 veterans are pursuing educa tion or job training in Oregon under the G.I. Bill or PJublic Law 16, which marks a decline of only 8.2 percent from a year ago. This is shown in the Veterans Administration regional report of December 1, Charles M. Cox, VA representative for this area, pointed out today. Oregon schools counted 19,192 ex-GI's studying with federal aid as of that date, 1093 fewer than a year ago. The decline was only 5.4 percent, much less than was generally predicted. On the job training was being give nto 3335 ex-GI's, 21.4 per cent fewer than last year. Job training fell off steadily after wage ceilings weie imposed in August, 19-16, but since last May, when ceilings were boosted, G.I. job trainees have gained slightly month by month. J. C. PENNEY AUTHORIZES PAYMENT FOR ASSOCIATES The board of directors of the J. C. Penney Co. have authorized a special payment of an amount equal to two weeks' pay for full time associates who have been Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Crawford Jr. and daughter returned to their home in Portland last week. Mrs. Crawford and daughter visited at the home of her mother, Mrs. Ida Coleman, for several weeks. Mrs.- Etta Bristow returned home from Walla Walla last week. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Morgan spent a few days in Portland last week. They reported that Arthur Crawford underwent a major op eration in a hospital there 'films day of last week.
