Office Bureau of entomoluby repre sentatives responsible for the Mormon cricket control program made a progress report to farm ers from Morrow, Gilliam ana Sherman counties at a meeting held in the Vendome hotel at Ar lington on May 12. Bert Johnson, county Judge; George Miller, Al bert Lindstrom, Dick Wightman and John Krebs were those from Morrow county attending the meeting. Showers and heavy rains have slowed up control operations con siderably this spring. Much of the area has been baited two or more times due to rains. Up to this time baiting has been done in large hatching areas where crick ets were concentrated on or near egg beds. This method of control has ended in Morrow county where crickets are now migrat ing. Large flocks of gulls are working on the crickets in Mor row county, starting at the east portion of the infested am and have now worked past the Boara man project. It was agreed that county funds (county court and volun tary contributions) would be used to put baiting and mixing crews on a seven-day week. Farmers are being called upon to scout the areas adjacent to their crops and begin baiting now before damage is done. Baiters are av ailable commmercially and a few owned by the bureau of entomol ogy can be arranged for use by contacting the bait mixing sta tion at Boardman. Farmers who desire building plans for anything from a dairy barn to a merry-go-round for the kids can get them now through the Oregon State College building plan service. Detailed instruc tions and working drawings are available for scores of structures and equipment such as farm hou ses, grain elevators, cattle feed ers, gathes and buckrakes. To make the farm builder's blueprint-hunting job easier, M. G. fiuber, extension agricultural engineer, has indexed the avail able plans in an extension circu lar No. 487, entitled, "O.S.C. Farm Building Plan Service Listing Farm Houses, Farm Buildings and Equipment Plans Available." This 26-page mimeographed booklet, which contains informa tion about each of the plans, is available at this office or by writ ing direct to the college. Ninety-two spearate listings are included in the publication. Many of the items, farm houses, for example, have a number of variations to meet particular building needs. For more detail- 1 -j 1 1- :...! eu lluuillldllUJl man 13 tuuiaiiicu in the circular, the county agri cultural agent has a manual- giv ing full descriptions of the plans covered.
