Mothers of Primary
Grades Honored At
Lexington School
By Mrs. Cecil Jones
Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. the
P-TA primary room committee,
Mrs. Jessie Yarnell and Mrs. Mar
ie Martin were hostesses at a tea
honoring the first and second
grade mothers and the pre-school
mothers. Mrs. Sorllen's room en
tertained with several numbers,
after which they served refresh
ments of coffee, tea, cake and
sandwiches. Those pouring were
Thelma Anderson and Marie
Martin. The tables were beauti
ful with white cloths, pink tulips,
white narcissus, apple blossoms
and pink candles. Also at each
plate was a pink nut cup with
"Mother" on it. A primary room
Mothers club was organized with
Jessie Yarnell as president, and
Mrs. Glen Griffith, secretary.
Those attending were Mrs. Nonle
Pointer, Mrs. Delpha Jones, Wil
ma Wihlon, Dorothy Christopher
son, Lela Palmer, Wilma Howton,
Keep Morrow County's Representative
on the job.

James Pointer of Seattle have ar
rived and are staying at the Dav

Miss Edith Edwards of Spokane
spent the week end at her home
here.
Miss June Steagall who Is at
tending St. Joseph's academy in
Pendleton spent the week end at
her home here.
Mr. and Mrs. George Steagall
went to Lebanon Friday. They
took his mother to Corvallis to
visit another son, Bobby, who is
attending school there.
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Jones spent
Saturday at the W. I. Miller home

ion with his mother, Mrs. Rhoda

Elmer Hunt spent the week end
in La Grande with his family.
A family reunion was held
Sunday at the Ivan Donovan
home in honor of his mother who
is visiting from the Valley. Those
present were Mr. and Mrs. Butch
Livingstone of Spray, Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Breeding, Mr. and Mrs.
Bert Breeding and family, Mr.
and Mrs. Oscar Breeding and
family, all nieces and nephews
of Mrs. Donavan.

Jack Bennett had his arm brok
en twice and the elbow shattered
when he fell off the "monkey"
bar Thursday noon. He was tak
en to the Pendleton hospital. He
was to have his elbow operated
on Monday.
, Misses Eunice and Shirley Mil
ler of Grandview spent the week
end with their parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Miller, and brother
Don.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Green anfl
family went to La Grande Satur
day. Mrs. Minnie Fraser spent the
week end at La Grande with her
daughter, Clara Ellen, at the E.
O. C. E.
Mr. and Mrs. Mack McCoy and

A. E. McFarland, a former res
ident of Boardman, was visiting

The Assembly of God junior
choir and sextet sang over the
radio Sunday at Pendleton at 3
p.m. and at Walla Walla at 5 p.
m.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Warner,
Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Markham,
Rev. A. B. Turner, Jack Browning
last Wednesday night. After a
short business meeting the eve
ning was spent playing pinochle.
Delicious refreshments of straw
berry shortcake and coffee were
served.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Yarnell
and Mr. and Mrs. 0. W. Cutsforth
attended the Junior-Senior prom
at Boardman Saturday night.
The 7th and 8th grade room
put on a program last Friday for
their mothers. Coffee, tea and
cookies were served. Betty Lou
Messenger, Ruth Ann Acklen and
Patty Peck were soloists. The
class put on a skit.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Matthews vis
ited Monday at the O. G. Breed
ing home.
Announcements have been re
ceived in Lexington of the com
ing marriage of Miss Jean Rauch
and David Pardue who are to be
married on June 4 in the Luther
an church in Hermiston.
Mr. and Mrs. Newt O'Harra
spent the week end in Eugene
with their son and daughter, Jack
and Patty.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Griffin went
to Yakima Saturday and brought
back their son's children.

ALL-TUITION SCHOLARSHIP
Maxine Ely of Boardman high
School has been awarded an ail
tuition scholarship at Eastern
Oregon college for 1948-49 by the
La Grande Rotary club, accord
ing to school officials. Maxine
plans to pursue a course in tea
cher education.
Other winners of Rotary club
scholarships are Donna Smith of
Rufus high school, Mary Jones of
Vale high school, Kleve Johnson
of Prineville high school and
Mildred Calhoun of Imbler high
school.
Applicants were judged on the
basis of scholaorship, leadership,
personality and character and
worthiness of need.

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Allen
and two children spent from Fri
day until Sunday at the H. W.
Grim and C. W. Acock homes. Bil
ly Acock of Pendleton also spent
Sunday with them.
Rev. Haslem, an evangelist,
was in Irrigon Friday. He is go
ing to help with the Bible vaca
tion school for four days.
