Beef breeding projects are be
coming more popular with Mor
row county 4-H club members
each year. Mike Stalcup, Board
man, purchased two fine pure
bred Hereford heifers from the
O. W. Cutsforth herd last week
and will use these to build a herd
of registered Herefords. Mike,
who is just nine years old, plans
to have a sizeable herd of Here
fords by the time he is through
with active 4-H club work.
Roger Palmer of Eightmile is
also making plans for a pure
bred herd of Herefords. Roger,
who is twelve years old, purch
ased a registered Hereford heifer
at the Midco Breeders' sale at
Moro in September. This was
from the Roy Robinson herd at
Hardman and the heifer will
calve next spring.
Allen Hughes, Butter creek, Is
just a little more progressed in
his Hereford breeding project.
Allen has been a 4-H club mem
ber for two years and has a
small start with a purehred herd.
He was the first 4-H club mem
ber in Morrow county to con
sign and sell a registered sire
through a breeders' sale. Last
week Allen sold the bull, Allen
Domino 2nd, through the North
west Hereford Breeders' sale at
La Grande for a price of $-390.
Other 4-H club members with
beef breeding projects are Ingrid
Hermann, lone; Jim. Wightman,
Heppner; Ida Lee Chapel, Hard
man, and Jo Anne Graves, Hepp
ner. Due to a conflict of dates for
both November 21 and Novem
ber 22, the Annual Achievement
party has been changed to its
original date, Friday evening,
November 21, at the Lexington
grange hall. This was necessary
since arrangements were made
for Mrs. Ceraldine Danzl, assist
ant state club leader, to be with
us this week end.
An interesting program is plan
ned to follow the potluck sup
per at 6 p.m. Presentation of all
completion pins, special honors,
and recognition will be made.
Letters were sent out to all
club members, parents, and
leaders this week. Everyone Is
invited to attend.
