Saturday the families gathered at the lio'Jo Moore home for dinner. Mrs. Fred Smith returned from spending a few days with rela tives In Seattle. Wash. Going al so were her sister, Mrs. F. H. Vaupel of Chicago, and an aunt. Mrs. J. H. Rudolph of Kochelle, 111. Mrs. Vaupel and Mrs. Ru dolph are on their return trip home after two weeks in the west with relatives. Dinner guests at the D. F. Ran sier home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ransier and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Danny Ransier of Echo, and Mrs. Marvin Ran sier of Orting. Cal. Afternoon callers were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Marlow and two children of Um atilla, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Marlow. Mrs. Marvin Ransier plans on leaving for Orting Wed nesday and from there she will go to Anchorage, Alaska, to Join her husband who is in the arm ed forces. Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Ransier and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Marlow re ceived word of the death of Mrs. Danny Marlow and infant babe at the St. Anthony's hospital in Pendleton Saturday. Mrs. Mar low w as a niece of Mrs. Ransier and Mrs. Marlow. The first PTA meeting for the winter and also teachers recep tion was held at the school Mon day night. The trees av ailable for eastern Oregon farms this season are Douglas fir, Pon- derosa pine, Scotch pine, Chin ese arborvitae, Arizona cypress. black locust and Russian olive. These trees are available from the state forester at Salem at a cost of $2.50 per thousand, with a minimum charge of 50 cents, f.o.b. the Oregon forest nursery, Corvallis. Orders must be re ceived by March 1, 1948 to be filled. Order blanks and a circular on "Forest Trees for Farm Plant ing" are available from this office- , . The secretary of agriculture recently has called upon the ex tension through its county agents to begin work on a "Freedom Gardens" campaign to produce and preserve more food at home. Mrs. Lilly is entering the St. Anthony's hospital Tuesday for a major operation.
