Oregon, it has been announced by the Holstein-Friesian Associ ation of America. The boy champion is H. Keith Warner of Rochester, Indiana. Awards were made on the basis of the leadership of these young people in a wider scope of rural youth projects, in addition to their excellence in demonstrat ing the merits of the Holstein Friesian breed. Miss Fredenthal started her dairy breeding project six years ago with two Holstein grade hei fers. She has purchased good quality heifers each year and her herd now is enlarging itself. She now owns 16 animals. Mar garet last year was named 4-H club livestock breeding project for Washington county. She now is enrolled as a fresh man student in agriculture at OSC. Upon completion of her college training, she hopes to specialize in breeding Holsteins. Herefords, and Arabian horses. GEOGRAPHY CONFERENCE CALLS TEACHERS TO OSC Oregon State College -That geography is more than a big picture book with flat maps these days is revealed again in the program for the fall confer ence of the Oregon Geography council to be held here October 4. Invitations have been issued to all teachers of geography in the state and others interested, anounced Dr. J. Granville Jen sen, professor of geography here and coordinator of the confer ence. The morning session will real with some practical aspects of geoghaphy, including "Geogra phical Aspects of Oregon Agri culture," "Geographical Aspects of Industry in Oregon," and "Ur ban Geography in Oregon." Th Climatic Factor in Geo graphy" will be the opening af ternoon subject after which four sectional meetings will be held for teachers of geography rang ing from lower school grades through college and adult edu cation. He had been in a Portland hos pital. He was buried in the Pas co cemetery after serv ices at 2:30 o clock Thursday afternoon. He leaves besides Mrs. Sparks, a daughter, Mrs. Golda Provancho and two grandchildren, Jeannie Brown of Hollywood and Robert Brown at E.O.C.E. at La Grande, and a step son. Virgil Sparks and family. Mrs. Joy Smith returned from Lebanon Sunday where she had attended the funeral of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Ella Caldwell Saturday morning. The Cald wells have lived in the Willam ette valley the last few years but have a home here and lived here for a number of years. Both children, Vivian and Clair Lou ise, were born here. Besides the girls she leaves her husband Clair, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pedan and a great many rela tives and friends. Mrs. Tom Caldwell returned home Sunday after spending three weeks at the bedside of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ella Caldwell, who died Thursday morning. Tom Caldwell went to Leban on Saturday. Paul Jarr of Longview has gone to Heppner after spending a few days in Irrigon. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Shoun and son Steven of Walla Walla spent Monday afternoon with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Shoun. Roy Stamp of Heppner spent Sunday in the Irrigon vicinity. Fred Davis spent from Satur day until Monday in Portland. William Gollyhorn, Mr. and and Mrs. Lyle Mulkey and bro ther Gene returned from the mountains with one deer. Mr. and Mrs. B. P. Rand and son Herbert spent from Saturday until Monday in Portland with Mr. Rand's brother Earl and family and also took in the In ternational Livestock show. Clark Stephens and Elton Fra ser went to Portland Monday evening. , Mrs. Dolly Minnick returned Saturday from a few days visit in Weston and vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. B. G. Green (June Thornton) and baby daughter of Lewiston, Idaho, spent Sunday with her brother, James Hender son, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Williams of Echo spent Sunday with the Gollyhorn family. Jack White has the lumber on his lot ready to build his house. The Standard Oil company is putting a service station on the Sparks corner across from the postoffice. Joe Paul, seaman 1c of Whit by Island, spent Sunday with his family here. The Irrigon football team play ed the Hermiston B team at Her miston Friday, the Hermiston team winning, 33-16. Eunice and Shirley Miller of Grandview spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miller, and brother, Don. Mrs. Nettie Sparks is home from Portland. She is visiting her son, Virgil Sparks, and family. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Miller and son, Bud Holden, are spending the week near Ukiah hunting. Mrs. Irene Critchlow has tak en over the Sparks park and camp cabins adjoining them and is running them. VISITORS FROM PENDLETON Mrs. J. C. Moll and daughter, Mrs. M. J. (Pete) Pinney, were Heppner visitors Sunday from Pendleton, it being their first vis it here. Mrs. Moll is the Walla Walla Bulletin correspondent from Pendleton. o RETURNS FROM HOSPITAL Alex Green came home Satur day from The Dalles where he spent several weeks In the hos pital.
