The violent wind and dust
storm which hit this section of
the country Thursday blew down
several big trees in Lexington
and they broke down different
sections of the electric power
lines.

Mr. and Mrs. Roger Anderson

Tuesday for Wallowa to spend
the rest of the week visiting rel
atives. Dean Hunt hurt his eye quite
seriously Saturday while work
ing in the harvest field. He slip
ped in the combine and caught
a piece of wire in his eye, cut
ting his eyeball. He went to a
physician for medical attention
and has to keep his eye bandag
ed for a while, but it is slowly
getting better.
Elmer Hunt drove to Portland
Sunday. He was accompanied
by his mother, Mrs. Etta Hunt,
who has been visiting here.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Marsh
all have returned from a two
weeks vacation spent in Bend
and way points.

BOARDMAN . . .
A wind, dust and hail storm
hit Boardman Monday at 4:20 1
p.m. Hail stones were as large
as marbles. Much damage was
done to the watermelons as well j
as tomatoes and gardens in gen
eral. Trees were blown to the
ground in several places, but no
damage was caused by these.
The early potato growers have
started this week digging and
are in general having a good
yield. Hugh Brown, one of the
first to dig, has finished with a
good yield. Larger growers start
ing this week are Don and Hen
ry Zlvney, Lewis and Cecil Ham
ilton, who have 38 acres and
the Miller Bros, with approxi
mately 65 acres. Jack Mulligan
who also has several acres will
dig some later.
Boardman witnessed a real
dust and wind storm Thursday
evening. Several trees were
blown down, but no damage

Dewey West is the new owner
of the Chevron gas station and
took possession July 10. Mr.
West is a very promising young
nan who, with Mrs. West and
son Larry, has lived in Board
nan the past few years. Robert
Harwood recently took over the
station from Mrs. Crystal Bar
low but has decided the station
was not what he wanted, and
has gone back as janitor of the
Eoardman school.
Donald Downey and Gunner
Skoubo who have been taking
taining for Union Pacific opera
tors have passed their examina
tions and are each doing relief
work. Downey is relieving Don
ald Tannehill at Messner while
he is taking the place of Agent
Hite who is on vacation. Skoubo
is relieving at Hinkle at present.
Lloyd Pearson of Portland
came Wednesday for a few days
visit with his brother and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Pear
son. While here he will assist
Dewey West at the Chevron sta
tion. Guests at the Earl Downey
home this week were Mr. and
Mrs. Leonard Bedford and son of !
Portland. Mrs. Bedford is a niece i
of Mrs. Downey and the daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Fergu
son who are at the Downey
home.
Jackie and Richard Mulligan,
sons of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mulli
gan, returned home Friday after
spending a couple of months
with their grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. John Mulligan of Albany.
Mrs. Lee Pearson, Mrs. Dale
Russell and Mrs. Dewey West
were hostesses Friday afternoon
to a lovely party honoring Mrs.
Don Tannehill (Charlotte Wool
ey) with a bridal shower. The
bride was the recipient of many
lovely and useful gifts. Refresh
ments of cake, ice tea and cof
fee were served.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Souders left
for The Dalles Friday for a med
ical check-up, and will then mo
tor on to Coos Bay to visit the
Glenn Macken family, returning
by way of Waldport to call on
Mr. and Mrs. McFarland. They
plan a two weeks stay.
Albert Ball, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Ball, left this week for
Pendleton where Tie is employed
with the signal maintainer crew.
Mrs. Alan Billings who is at

Robert Barker of Corvallis ar
rived at the home of Warren
Smith and wilk remain here un
til other living quarters can be
obtained. Mrs. Smith left Sun
day for Tortland and will re
turn with Mrs. Barker the first
of the week. Mr. Barker will be
employed at the McNary dam.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Alvord of
Tacoma spent last week at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kunze.
Mrs. Alvord is a niece of Mr.
Kunze.
