Harvey Miller, chairman of the state PMA committee. 'The response to the feed po tato offer has meant that no surplus Oregon potatoes as yet have been totally wasted," Mill er said. "The only potatoes dumped have been lots that were deteriorating and out of. condition. The PMA committee has no outlets in sight other than sale for use as livestock feed for an additional 600 carloads of pota toes, Miller added. Any not tak en by feeders probably will have to be dumped and will be wasted. Dairymen, stockmen and hog growers have been buying the feed potatoes, Miller said, Indi cating that the surplus potatoes which otherwise would have been wasted will be marketed in the form of milk, butter, beef and pork. County Triple A committees take orders for the feed potatoes at prices depending upon where the potatoes are in storage. On sales to feeders within the coun ty wher the surplus potatoes are located, the price is 20 cents a hundred pounds, with the buyer taking delivery at the producer's farm. On sales involving ship ment to another county, the price is one cent a hundred weight, with the buyer paying all freight charges. Producerg w'111 potatoes under price support loans are encour aged to grade out and market only the select No. 1 grade po tatoes, so that those sold for feed usually will consist of 'fringe No. 1 grade, No. 2s, and culls. They are in sound con dition and contain not more than 2 percent soft rot. SENDS GREETINGS Emil Carlson of Woodburn has asked the editor to remember him to his friends and neighbors in Morrow county.
