Vallis Dexter and family of Den
ver left Sunday after visiting his
parents, the W. B. Dexters. Vallis
is in the veterans hospital there but
has a short furlough.
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hobbs and
children of North Powder were also
here visiting her parents, the W.
B. Dexters. They also left Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Keniworthy of En-
cheleum visited the Lee Smiths
Monday night
Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Markham,
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Aldrich, Fred
Markham and Robert came home
Saturday from a very successful
hunt, having seven bucks.
Marshall Markham, J. E. McCoy,
the Glen Aldrichs and Frank Doll
started out Monday to hunt elk.
The band went to Hermiston Fri
day evening to play for the teachers
reception there. The teachers also
attended the reception.
Sam Umiker of Castle Rock spent
the week end with his family here.
He is running his father's stock
farm.
Frank Leicht and family of Eu
gene spent the week end with his
sister, Mrs. Sam Umiker and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Robbins
of Seattle spent the week with her
mother, Mrs. Chris Strauser and
family. Ed Johnson of Seattle also
was a guest of the Strauser's.
The Assembly of God carpenters
worked on the church Saturday.
Rev. Mr. Nichols of Hermiston
showed religious pictures, and pic
tures of Hawaii at the Baptist com'
munity church Friday.
Lyle Mulkey and Don Kenny are
in the mountains hunting elk.
Mrs. J. E. McCoy got home Mon
day. She spent a few weeks
Portland and Seattle.
Mr. and Mrs. William Gollyhorn
and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Graybeal got
back from a week's trip to Mt Ver
non visiting relatives and hunting
The deer were some place else.
J. O. Sweringen and son Johnny
are out hunting for elk.
Mr. and Irs. William Slate and
children left for Ogden, Utah, Mon
day. They have been here about
two years and will be missed in Ir-
rigon.
The Irrigon football team defeat
ed the Weston team 28-0 here Fri
day.
Mr. and Mrs. V. T. Lowery of
Grants Pass left Wednesday after
spending some time with her sister,
Mrs. Roy Marlow and family.
Mrs. Nona O'Brien of Menlo and
daugter, Mrs. Joe Johnson, are vis-

Buscke have taken life a little eas
ier. This would be shocking to OPA
if it were to happen today, but Mrs.
Buschke said that In raising a large
family ample preparations have to
be made for the winter store of
food. "I canned as much as 400
half-gallon jars of fruit a season
and it was nearly always slicked
up.
Although they have travelled
through 60 years of their lives to
gether, the Buschkes are not living
on borrowed time. They have tak
en a keen interest in what is going
on, take pleasure in keeping up
their pleasant little home, and
above all enjoy their children and
their children's children. "But we
never interfere with their trouble
or try to boss our children. We
just enjoy them," Mr. Buschke said.
As stated before, 11 of the 12
children born to Mr. and Mrs. Bus
chke were here for the anniversary.
One son, Robert a veteran of
World War L died several years
ago. Those present were Ed Bus
chke and family, Morgan; Mrs. Lo
well (Lena) Twitchell, Las Angeles;
Mr. and Mrs. Hyle (Anna) Fah-
