A parent-teacher association
was organized last Wednesday
afternoon when a group of in
terested people met at the school
house for the purpose. Mrs.
Mary Edwards acted as tempor
ary chairman. Mrs. Clarence
Hayes was elected president of
the new organization and Mrs.
Cecil Jones was elected secretary-treasurer.
Mrs. C. C. Car
michael was appointed pianist
for the group. It was decided to
hold meetings the second Wed
nesday evening of each month.
The next meeting will be the
evening of Sept. 11 and all pa
rents and teachers are urged to
be present.
The Tan-da Camp Fire Girls
had an all day meeting Friday,
Aug. 30 at the W. E. McMillan
ranch below town. The girls hik
ed down before breakfast and
upon arrival cooked their break
fast outside. They carried pack
ed lunches and in the evening
again cooked their dinner out
side. While there they enjoyed
a hike along the creek gathering
things of nature. Part of the af
ternoon was spent in a business
meeting, including a visit from
Miss Katherine Monahan of
Heppner.
Mrs. Emma Breshears is again
at the post office after a month's
vacation during which time the
office was in charge of Mrs.
Marie Steagall and Mrs. Vera
Whillock.
A. M. Edwards a nd son Al
bert were business visitors in
Pendleton Tuesday.
Mrs. Louise Grant, Ben Grant
and Jo McMillan went to Kinzua
Tuesday after the Grant children
who have been visiting their
grandparents there.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Breeding
and Mrs. Iva Way were transact
ing business in Prairie City last
Saturday.
Miss Marcella Jackson left
Tuesday to return to her studies
at the University of Oregon at
Eugene.
Mr. and Mrs. Oris Padberg
and son Charlie returned home
Friday from a two weeks vaca
tion spent visiting relatives in
California.
Pfc Arthur Dean Hunt arrived
Monday afternoon on leave from
his base at Fairfield-Suisun ar
my air base at Fairfield, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. James Leach of
Portland were visiting friends
and relatives here over the
week-end.
Mrs. Marie Steagall took her
daughter June to Pendleton Mon
day where she will enter St.
Joseph's academy for the school
year. .
Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Hunt and'
son Dean were business visitors
in The Dalles Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Al Fetsch have
gone to Salem and o n their re
turn will be accompanied by his
mother who will make her home
here for awhile.
This community has been for
tunate in securing the services
of a pastor, the Kev. Moreland,
who with Mrs. Moreland and
their family came from near
Prosser. Church services are
held every Sunday at 11 a. m.,
following Sunday school, and at
8 p. m. in the Christian church.
