B a Good Neighbor
Lexington has ihown enterprise and foresight
in establishing n airport to serve not only that
community but the entire county. The little com
munity has undertaken a sizeable job and is car
rying ''n against considerable odds. Loss of a
hangar set the project back temporarily but did
not daunt the spirit of those ho saw the need of
a port and started out to have one.
It is not the purpose of the airport commission
to seek funds through donation at least not con
stantly. A considerable sum as raised for the
initial start through the celebration at Lexington
last July 4. That as followed with a canvass of
the neighboring towns which resulted in raising
a tidv sum. But an airport is no different from
any other enterprise. It requires funds, and quite
regularly too.
Another celebration is being held this year
and net proceeds will be used in further develop
ment of the airport Lexington has invited the
people of the county to celebrate there on July 3
and 4. Business people and thers have been in
vited to participate in the parade. This is one part
of the program to which Heppner can make a dl
rect contribution. The Chamber of Commerce is
endeavoring to prepare a float and likewise is urg
ing others to make some type of contribution to
the parade. If there is not time to prepare some
thing elaborate it surely would be worth the effort
to place something on the family car to designate
ne's place of business and enter it. This goes for
other towns of the county as well as Heppner.
