Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Shoun and son Steven spent Thursday with his parents, the J. A. Shouns. The farmers are busy cultivating potatoes and melons now. The po tatoes look nice but melons rather slow. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Franchier of Pendleton spent Sunday with the H. M. Duus family. Mr. and Mrs. Marten Abken went to Kennewick Saturday. Their dau ghter Glenda accompanied them. Frank Lindsey loaded another band of sheep in the cars in Irri .gon from Patterson to be taken to summer pasture at Emmet, Idaho. Miss Evelyn Scott went to La Grande Friday. Miss Kennedy went to Umatilla Friday. All the rest of the teachers have gone home excepting Supt. LeRoy Darling. The Darling fam ily left today for Caifornia to visit relatives. - They have remodeled the Abken house and have added a new piano. Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Pier son and Ruth Umiker went to Boardman Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Slate of Ogden, Utah, visited his brother William Slate and family last week. Luther Hill and Delbert Smith of Priest River also were recent gusts at the Slate home. Marshall Markham returned to Spokane Sunday after spending the week-end with his family here. Mrs. Marshall and daughter Mar ene went to Portland Monday. School closed Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Schwarz drove to The Dalles Sunday, tak ing their son LenRay to the hospi tal for treatment of a badly infect ed leg. The youngster fell on some glass about two weeks ago cutting the leg quite badly. The latest re port from the hospital is that he is improving but will have to re main there another week. Mr. Schwarz returned home but Mrs. Schwarz stayed there to be near their son. Mrs. Ora Thompson and son Ro raM, Mrs. Lester Seites and the J. A. Shour-s were Walla Walla visit ors Tuesday. Delores Thornton left for her home at Kendrick, Ida. Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. B. P. Rand went to Portland Saturday. Pupils of the upper grades, ac companied by their teachers, Miss Scott and Miss Crego went to Sac ajawea park Monday for the an nual school picnic Ora Thompson had his service station and garage painted white finishing up Monday. The vote at the primary election was light. Elmer Rucker took the ballots to Heppner Saturday. Morris Godwin of Nyssa is visit ing his grandmother, Mrs. Marttha Ferril. He has re-enlisted in the air corps for three more years as a pi ot. He is a staff sergeant. The ethers went to the springs Thursday fcr ths annual picnic. o Mr. and Mrs. Harold Van Horn of Spokane were visitors the fore part of the week at the Harley Anderson home, coming Sunday and returning Wednesday. Mr. Van Horn was wounded in action and has been hospitalized seven months. J. W. Burns is a new employe at the Case Furniture company .
