Mr. and Mrs. Howard Gollyhorn and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Gollyhorn and George Wiliams went to Monu ment Tuesday. Irrigon had another home de stroyed by fire Friday evening. Mrs. Nora Wilson's house burned to the ground, with no insurance on it. The Ordnance fire truck came and 'also the neighbors helped all they could. They had the fire almost extinguished when the wa ter was gone and it started up and was not stopped again The fire started from the roof. They saved Mrs. Martha FerriU's house that was in the same yard and also most of the furniture. Charles Wilson and his wife and four children have lived with his mother since he re turned from the army. He returnd Tuesday to work on the church building Sheriff C. J. D. Bauman and As sessor W, O. Dix of Heppner were Irrigon visitors Wednesday. Rev. Turner and Ralph DeBoer, Mrs. Tom Cadwell and Mrs Emma Stewart spent from Monday to Wednesday at a church meeting in La Grande. , Robert Brown was taken to tne Pendleton , hospital Saturday. He has rheumatic fever. He was a ju nior in the high school and we are hoping for a speedy and absolute cure for him. David Rand was taken to the gen eral hospital in Walla Walla Fri day. He was operated on for appen dicitis.. There are two babies born at Pen dleton, one Jerry, born to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Marks March 20 and Henry Jr. born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Waters March 26. Jerry is an uncle of the Waters baby. Mrs Waters arrived home from the hos pital Friday. Earl Connell is working at Castle Rock and his family will join him as soon as they can make arrange ments to go. Mr. and Mrs. Marten Abken made a business trip to The Dalles Wednesday. John Voile has nearly completed Ms lambing with a 100 percent lamb crop. Mr. and Mrs. John KnudsOn of near Tacoma arrived Wednesday to visit the Minnie Fraser and James Henderson families. They left Fri day accompanied by Mrs. Fraser and daughter Maxine, for Kend rick Idaho to visit relatives there. Mrs. B. P. Rand and son Herbert went to Walla Walla Sunday to see David who is in the General hos pital there. David is getting along nicely and will be coming home Tuesday. Lester Colpett of Hermiston was LEGION AUXILIARY PLANS BUSY SEASON Mrs. Richard Wells was hostess to the American Legion auxiliary at her home Tuesday evening, April 9, with Mrs. Earl Evans as co-hostess. Selection of girls to attend Girls State was made. Audrey Majeske and Marion Miller were chosen for camp at Silver Creek Falls in June. Money was voted to the Cancer Control fund and to the Child Welfare center in Portland for vet erans' children for Easter. Plans were made for the poppy sale; for joint installation with the Legion, and for a benefit card party to be held in the near future. The child welfare center in Port land are in need of clothing for the children of veterans. They are asking for slips, panties, dresses and sox for girls sizes 6 to 14 years. Blouses and T shirts are needed for boys in sizes 8 to 12 years. If you have any of these articles which have been outgrown and are in good condition call 2593 and they wil be picked up or take them to Mrs. Earl Gilliam at Gilliam and Bisbee's store and they will be sent in to the Center. LUNCH AND WHITE ELEPHANT SALE PLANNED BY STAR CLUB Officers club of the Eastern Star Ruth Chapter 32 have scheduled a White Elephant sale at the office of P. P. & L Saturday afternoon. Sandwiches, salad and coffee will be served at noon. absence. FLIES TO ROCHESTER James Vaentine left Monday by plane for Rochester, Minn., to see Mrs. Valentine who is hospitalized there. Mrs. Valentine's condition is serious but her physician express ed the belief that she will be on the mend shortly. HOUSEKEEPER COMES Charles "Chuck" Hodge drove to Salem over the week-end and brought back with him Mrs. Lizzie Goodwin who has .been installed as housekeeper in the Hodge home. Mrs. Goodwin worked for the fam ily at Hermiston. ATTEND C. E. MEETING A group of Christian Endeavor ers from Heppner attended a state meeting of the society in Salem late last week. The trip was made in the Wendell Herbison and Merle Miller cars, with those gentlemen doing the piloting. an Irrigon visitor Monday. Mrs. W. C. Wolverton of Hermis ton and Mrs. Morton Wolverton of Stanfield visited Mrs. E. L. Ruck er who is ill at her hme. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Haberlein and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hill went to Pendleton Saturday. EDWARD CHINN HOME ON VISIT Mr. and Mrs. Emery Coxen ar rived in Heppner Wednesday eve ning for a visit with home foks. Emery has been discharged from the Marines and thinks he will en joy being a civilian once more. He landed in San Diego March 26 from Guam where he was station ed after the great battle of Iwo Jima. He has been busy 'looking the old town over to see what changes have taken place in his RETURNS TO HEPPNER J. O. Archer has returned to Heppner from Pendleton where he was hospitalized several months. His health is greatly improved and J ne is able to get around and visit familiar haunts. Judge Bert John son, L. D. Neili and Clerk C. W. Barlow drove to Pendleton Thurs day and brought him home. Chorus practice has been changed from the reguar time to Sunday afternoon, at 3 p. m. at the home of the director. The change is made because of the Civic Arts concert in Pendleton on Monday. The change is for this week ony. Sgt. James Healy is back in the states, having landed in San Fran cisco last week from Okinawa.
