    Senators Report on
Opposition to McNary
Dam at Umatilla
Opposition to construction of the
McNary dam at Umatilla has been
uncovered In Washington and the
Oregon delegation in congress is be
ing importuned to do something
about it. Recently a letter support
ing the dam was sent by the Hepp
ner chamber of commerce to Sena
tors Cordon and Morse and Rep.
Lowell Stockman. Monday tele
grams were read from the senators
setting out their findings and their
offers of assistance in stopping the
opposition.
It appears that the state of Wash
ington has a pet project of its own
to develop and it cannot very well
be pushed ahead with another big
Columbia river project on the cal
endar. Mayor J. O. Turner will be the
principal speaker at next Monday's
luncheon, discussing GI employ
ment. He has something to offer
and will merit a capacity house.
