Pest Office Stick-up
Brings Warning From
Postmaster General
Arrest of two bandits Feb. 7 at
San Antonio, Tex. has caused Post
master General Robert E. Hanne
gan to issue a word of warning to
the public relative to post office
robberies. The bandits, J. C. Vyse
and Edward Townsend, both 25years
of age, were arrested following a
hold-up of the Trinity Loan com
pany and four men at that place,
when they obtained $2,200. A
check-up on their identity found
them to be the pair that held up
the post office at Tyre Mich., Dec.
8, 1945. While being held in the
county jail at ' Sandusky, Mich.,
they escaped Dec. 26, abducted the
postmaster and a woman clerk at
Sandusky and stole the postmaster's
automobile. The abducted people
were released the same evening at
Pontiac Mich.
While the bandits covered a wide
range of businesses in their rob-
rberies, their great regret is that they
happened into the Tyre postoffice
not knowing it was such. Postal
authorities do not deal gently with
post office robbers and the young
bandits know they will be in con
finement a long, long time.
Mr. Hannegan feels the public
should be alerted on the possibil
ities of banditry in all setions of
the country and is seeking the sup
port of news sources everywhere
that the people may be on guard
against outbreaks of this nature.
