A "fight waste" advertisement
published by Pacific Power & Light
company to aid in the government's
conservation program has been se
lected bv the War Advertising
council, New York, as one of the
100 outstanding wartime advertise
ments of the past year, according
"to a notification received bythe
utility. n
Produced by McCann-Erickson
Inc., advertising agency for the
company, the advertisement fea
tured pictures of General George
C. Marshall, then army chief of
staff; Admiral E. J. King, comman
der in chief of the fleet; and Lt.
Gen. A. A. VanderRrift, marine
corps commandant. It was one of a
series run by the company to pro
mote the over-all "fight waste
program and to urge care of elec
trical equipment.

Carl Thompson had the niisfurtune
to turn on the highway in front of a
rapidly approching car. The side of
the car was pretty badly damaged but
no one was badly hurt.
Charles Markhani is another boy

visiting at the Harry Smith home
Mrs. Nora Wilson went to Portland

The GAA honored their mothers with

In the cafeteria which was beautifully
decorated in red and white. Angel pie
and punch were enjoyed in the candle
light Miss Margaret Gillls was an out
of town guest. Others were Mrs. M n

Harwood, Peggy Moylan. Ludda Ball,
Adeline Baker, Erin Hug, Maxine

The program consisted of a welcome
address by Dorothy Roach: two songs.

The "Super Supper" club and the
camp cookorv rlub had a combined
meeting at the home of Nancy Rands
1 Saturday afternoon. The supper club
' gave a "practice denu i n ration on how
to make baking ;.oi ,cr biscuits and
the "camp Cookers. ' demonstrated the
preparing of an asparagus salad.
Nancy Rands and Dolores Zivney
gave both demenstrations.
The "Super Supper" club had a val
entine party at the grange hall Feb.
11. Miss Gadeken gave the girls the
4-H pins which they earned last
year. It -was also a birthday party for
Zelda Zivney, one of their leaders.
fThey presented her with a gift of
eight glasses and a vase. Refreshments
of ice cream ana cane were serveu.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lilly and sons
Dickie and Bobby spent the week-end
visiting friends and relatives. Mr.
Lilly has been section foreman at
Imbler and is now taking over a po
sition at Barnheart.

was served at noon and 21 attended.
Mrs. Isabelle Johnson of lone and
children spent last week at the home

Evelyn Pearson, Lolla Garner and Hil
ma Tyler were visitors In Hermiston
Monday.
Mr and Mrs. Vernon Root and son
of Athena visited at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Leo Root the latter part of
the week.
P.-T.A. was held Thursday night.

Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Ravert have sold
their farm on the west end to Mr.
and Mrs. Roy Portlow. The Raverts
will move to Echo soon.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Miller motored to
Yakima Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gent of Enter
prise spent Friday at the home of Mrs.
Adeline Baker. Mr. Gent and Mrs. Ba
ker are brother and sister.
Vadna Dale, who has been staving
with Mr. and Mrs. George Linn the

the place look like Utopia.
Folks argued that the new fire
house would never look well beside
the old Town Hall. But they har
monize perfectly from the air. One
side of the railroad tracks looks
as good as the other. All the dif
ferent landmarks blend in nicely
with surroundings.
From where I sit, there's a lessen
