2 Heppner Gazette Times, February "7. 1946 lone Happenings of the Week Mrs. Echo Palmateei A pinochle party was held at the Masonic hall Saturday night Feb. 2 with Mrs. Howard Eubanks, Mrs. Raymond Lundell and Mrs. Char les Carlson as hostesses. Seven ta bles were at play. High scores were won by Mrs. John Eubanks and Milton Morgan. Low scores were held by Mrs. Donald Heliker and Herbert Ekstrom. Mrs. Roy Lind strom received the prize for double pinochle. Refreshments of apple pie ala mode and coffee were served. The Topic club presented the books "Minor Heresies" by Espey and "Raw Material" by La Farge to the lone public library and de dicated them to the school in honor of national education week. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sherer are the parents of a daughter born at Pendleton on Jan. 28. She has been named Judith Ann and she -weighed nine pounds. The junior, class wil present a program and basket social at the school house Friday evening, Feb. 15. The ladies are urged to bring baskets. Mrs. Garland Swanson is in the St. Vincent's hospital in Portland folowing a major operation. She is getting along satisfactorily. Percy Puyear of Toppenish Wash, was a guest at the Henry Clark home. Mr. and Mrs. David Rietmann and Mrs. Etta Bristow went to Walla Walla Sunday where Mrs. Bristow will remain for a while. Mrs. Joe Stith accompanied them as far as Pendleton and then went to her home in Meridian, Ida. While Rev. and Mrs. R. L. Cas selman were visiting in Corvallis the license prate was stolen from their car. They notilied the police and upon their return home found the license here in the mail. Rev. .Albert Walker of Hubbard preached at the Church of lone Cooperative Sunday. There wil al so be preaching next Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Smouse and son Kenny Lynn attended the Nelson -McElhinny wedding at Sa lem. Mr. Smouse was an usher at the wedding. W. B. Kennedy, carpenter at the Swanson store spent the week-end at his home in Corvalis. His son is home from the service. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Heliker spent the week-end with friends at Pendleton. Mrs. Harriet Lundell was a Portland guest during the J week-end. The Eastern Star social club met at the home of Mrs. Fred Mankin Wednesday evening. The study meeting of the Topic club will meet at the home of Mrs. C. W. Swanson Friday afternoon, Feb. 8. "The Rickshaw Boy" will be- reviewer. The Maranatha society will meet at the home of Mrs. Gordon White Saturday afternoon, Feb. 9. Clyde Pettyjohn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pettyjohn, has received his discharge from the navy. A farewell dinner was gven at the Masonic h?ll Jan. 29 at 6:30 p. m. by the Eastern Star in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Laxton McMurray, who are leaving soon. A short pro gram was given after dinner. Mrs. Kenneth Smouse played two violin soos and Mrs. Walter Roberts sang two songs. The officers presented an addenda in honor of Mr. and Mrs. McMurray and presented Mrs. McMurray with a floor lamp and Mr. McMurray with a fluorescent bed lamp. Heppner beat lone in both games here Tuesday, Jan. 29., the A squad 37-34 and B squad 29-16. lone went to Umatilla Thursday and were defeated in both games.
