    School District Only
True Democracy Says
Judge Bert Johnson
Singing of the Star Spangled
Banner sung by the audience, fol
lowed by the flag salute opened
the January meeting of the Hepp
ner P-T A held Wednesday eve
ning, January 9, in the music room.
The regular business meeting was
conducted by President Harold
Becket, after which a very enjoy
able program was given.
Terry Thompson delighted ev
eryone with a piano solo, "Petite
Mazurka", but could not be pre
vailed upon to give an encore. Mrs.
Robert Walker favored the group
with a solo Prayer for a Home" by
Klemm. She was accompanied by
Miss Marie Barlow.
Judge Bert Johnson was the
speaker of the evening, giving a
most interesting and worthwhile
talk on "Citizenship." He stressed
the fact the school district is the
only true democracy in the United
States and everyone should exer
cise his right by attending and
participatng in the meetings in
stead of "sidewalk" criticisms af
terwards. The necessity of discipline and
of its beginning in the home was
emphaszed by the speaker as a ne
cessary qualification for becoming
a good citizen, also the need for
better cooperation among parent,
teacher and school board to main
tain a school that will uphold the
highest standards of citizenship.
He also urged that all children at
tend Sunday school. He called at-

program, pointing out that carry
ing out their program is one of the
duties of being a good citizen.
He summed his talk up in "Do
unto others as you would havej
others do unto you", and we would
have citizens of the highest status
An arithmetic exhibit of both
work and texts was on display,
showing some very excellent work
done along that line in all the
grades.
The sixth grade won the half
holiday.
Delicious refreshments of sand
wiches, pickles, tea and coffee were
served by the commttee composed
of Mrs. Floyd Adams, Mrs. John
Bergstrom and Mrs. Carl Beg-
strom.
