Jack Grenz, 16, R. 2, Albany, was named champion in the Western Region to receive S200 from the 16000 in schol ar s h i p s pro v i d e d by the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company. An other Oregon winner is Wil liam Lane, 18, R. 2, Boring, who receives a $100 sectional scholarship. The new na t i o n a 1 cham pion, son of Mrs. Mary Ammon, started gardening nve years ago with a plot 50 feet square but in 1945 he used 14 acres of his 68-acre farm for vegetables. "Farmer Degree," and has accumulated more than a hun dred show awards for produce and livestock. Grenz, son of William F. Grenz, had five acres of produce which yielded nearly $2,000 in returns. As a senior in high school he plans to get college training. Sec tional winner Lane is the son of George F. Lane and lives on a 10-acre farm. He has completed more than 40 4-H Club projects and plans to expand his crop pro duction in 1946 with an irrigation weu and water system.
