LODGE OF SORROW
HAS GOOD ATTENDANCE
A large turnout of Elks and
friends gathered at the hall Sun
day afternoon for the lodge of
sorrow, or memorial meeting, which
is an annual function on the first
Sunday in December. This year the
lodge service commemorated the
memory of six brothers who had
died during the year: L B Edgar,
Charles B. Cox, Clarence Harris,
R. Norton King, Frank Saling and
D. A. McAtee.
Harvey Miller delivered the tri
bute to the departed brothers and
the Heppner Women's Chorus sang
three numbers. In the absence of
Exalted Ruler James Valentine, Es
teemed Leading Knight K A. House
presided.
GOES TO MEET HUSBAND
Mrs. C. C. Dunham left Wednes
day evening for Portland where
she was to meet her husband, for
mer Ph M lc C. C. Dunham but
once again Dr. Dunham, who re
ceived his discarge during the noon
hour today at Bremerton. They will
spend a few days in Portland and
possibly go to Medford where the
ex-navy man will report to his
draft board. A trip to Brookings to
visit his father also may be made
at this time, after which they will
return to Heppner. "

LEXINGTON GRANGE SETS
CHRISTMAS PARTY DATE
December 14 has been selected
by the Lexington grange as the date
for the annual Christmas party
and program. Following the pro
gram there will be a pot luck
supper.
The bazaar and booster night
meeting held at the hall Friday
evening was quite a success and
resulted in drawing out a good
crowd.
TURKEY SHOOT SUNDAY
Cloy M. Dykstra has announced
that he will hold a turkey shoot at
his place on Balm fork starting at
10 o'clock a. m. this coming Sun
day. There will be plenty of birds
for those who like to try their skill
at hitting the target with small
rifles.

WHEAT LEAGUE CONVENTION
IN SESSION AT PENDLETON
Morrow county farmers in gen
erous numbers are Pendleton visit
ors this week-end while .the annual
convention of the Eastern Oregon
Wheat League is in session.
Several business men have ex
pressed a desire to attend part or
the convention and some have al
ready gone to Pendleton.

new home. Mrs. Burroughs is leav
ing a place that has been her home
for 74 years, it having been first
settled on by her parents.
CHILD BURIED MONDAY
Funeral services were held at 10
o'clock a. m. Monday at St Pat
rick's Catholic church for Mary
Bernadette Doherty, five year old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard
Doherty, the pastor, Rev. Francis
McCormack, officiating. Interment
was made in the Heppner Masonic
cemetery with Phelps Funeral
Home in charge of arrangements.
Surviving besides the parents are
cauliflower
SOUR CREAM SAUCE
2 egg yolks, cup sour cream, 1
tbs lemon juice, tsp parsley,
yitsp paprika, V4 tsp salt
Combine egg yolks and cream.
Cook, stirring constantly, until the
sauce begins to thieken. Remove
from fire, add lemon juice, pars
ley, paprika and salt.
MUSTARD SAUCE
Vi cup vinegar, 1 tbs brown su
gar, tsp mustard, 1 egg V2 tsp
salt, 2 tbs butter
Heat vinegar and brown sugar
together and add this and the mus
tard to beaten egg. Cook in double
boiler until .thickened to a soft cus
tard. Add the salt and beat in
butter.
