Becket, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Becket and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Anderson are leaving this week-end for Mt. Hebron, Ca lif, to spend a few days visiting. Mrs. Hilma Anderson and daugh ter, Mrs. Louise King, are in Port land this week. Mrs. Anderson re cently moved into town from her ranch home and is occupying an apartment at Case's Arbor Vitae apartments. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Plumondore are bringing their son, James, home from the hospital in Pendleton to day. James underwent an appen dectomy several days ago. Mrs. Ester Knight and children of Sunnyside, Wash, visited at the home of Mrs. Knight's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nickerson, and family. Mrs. Dewey West and son Larry and Mrs. Lee Pearson and daughter Merry Jo Anne motored to Pendle ton Friday where the children re ceived medical care. Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Agee are vis iting their daughter Mrs. Irene Hubble and . family in Hermiston. Mr. and Mrs. Art Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Lehman and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Tannehill and sons Don and Keith were dinner guests at the Russell Miller home Sunday. The Christian Endeavor sponsor ed a party Friday night. Games were played and home made ice cream and cookies were served. Capt. J. L. Hall of McMinnville spent part of last week visiting on the project. He read several of the poems of James Whitcomb Riley at a school assembly. Capt. Hall as a little boy was fortunate in seeing Mr. Riley. Marion Pearson was taken to Walla Walla Monday for an appen dectomy. Mrs. Z. Gillespie and sons Don ald and Lynn motored to Hermis ton Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Root went to Yakima Sunday to attend the fune ral of Mrs. Root's aunt, Mrs. Eliza beth Garret. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Healy, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gronquist and son Keith, Mr. anij Mrs. Eldon Shannon and daughter Lorna and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harwood were dinner guests at the Rands home Sunday. The seventh and eighth graders had a hay ride party at the home of Ora Ely Thursday night. Eighteen children attended and ice cream and cake were refreshments. Elvivn Ely of Rock creek spent the week-end visiting his family. Mrs. Edith Matthews who has been a substitute tetcher here the past four weeks, returned to her home at lone Friday. McMillan left Friday for Culdesac, Ida. where she plans to attend the golden wedding anni versary of her sister and also visit other relatives while there. Mrs. . May Hartman was hostess for a shower honoring Mrs. Alice Majeske last Thursday at the Lad ies Aid room of the Congregational church. A large crowd was in at tendance and the honoree received many beautiful gifts. The hostess sandwiches, cookies and coffee. Sgt. Vester Thornburg (Pine) ar rived home last week from the Pa cific area. Pine had been overseas almost four years, having gone over with one of the first groups to ar rive in Australia. After a short va cation visiting his sister Rose Swift at Pullman he will assume his du ties as truck driver for the Lexing ton Oil Co-op. He is taking the place of Edward Hunt who has re signed to spend the winter in Port land. George Irvin and Ben Grant left Thursday for Roseburg where they will visit relatives. Mrs. Willie Steagall is visiting her parents in Lebanon. Mr. and Mrs. James McLean of Oklahoma have been visiting this last week at the George Allyn home. The freshman class entertained the student body of the high school with a hay ride and weiner roast at the Harold Peck ranch Friday night. A. M. Edwards is moving his well drilling equipment to Echo this week and will drill a new well for the city of Echo. o C. D. Conrad, county agent of Baker county, is in Heppner today to attend to business. He recently received a dis charge from the army. He has been stationed in Trinidad. Edward Skoubo returned home Tuesday. He received a discharge from the army.
