Heppner's Methodist church was the scene of a beautiful afternoon wedding Sunday when Miss Harriet Hager, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Osmin Hager, exchanged mar riage vows with Major Clayton Shaw. United . States Army, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Shaw of Port-1 land, formerly of Walla Walla. Preceding the ceremony Miss Marjorie Sims played incidental music and also accompanied her sister, Miss Florence Sims who sang "At Dawning" by Cadman and d' Hardelot's "Because'. Miss Mary Kay Blake lighted the tapers which, amid baskets of gladioli, adorned the altar. The bride, who was a lovely pic ture in her white satin gown and veil, was escorted by her father and attended by Mrs. Willard Blake, and was met at the altar by the groom and his brother. Lt. (jg) Wesley Shaw. The impressive double ring ceremony was read by Rev. Fletcher Forster in the pres ence of a capacity gathering of relatives and . friends of both families. Following the wedding the guests assembled at the Hager home to felicitate the bride and groom. About one hundred and twenty five people attended the reception. Sunday's event was the culmina tion of a romance which had its in ception on the campus of Oregon State college where the bride was affiliated with Kappa Kappa Gam ma and the groom Sigma Nu. Mr. Shaw is a graduae in secretarial science but was called into the army at once and has served in the Pacific area over three years. Center at High St. Salem, Oregon Harriet has grown to young woman hood in Heppner. While she awaited her fiance's return from the war zone she was employed in the of fice of the county agent. Major and Mrs. Shaw went to Walla Walla Sunday evening for a few days. They will go on to Port land later for a portion of the ma jor's 45 day furlough. Many out of town guests were present for the wedding including the groom's parents and other relatives from points in Washing ton. , All departed for their homes Sunday evening. Adele Nickerson Hayes and Rich, ard Hayes were married Sunday morning at the Christian church in the presence of a few relatives and friends. O. Wendell Herbison, pas, tor of .the Church of Christ offici ated. The bridal couple were at tended by the groom's brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Hayes of Ordnance. Mrs. Robert Walker sang "Thru the Years" and was accompanied by her sister, Miss Marie Barlow who also played the wedding marches. Following the ceremony a wed ding breakfast was served at the Lucas Place to the members of the wedding party and relatives. After a short wedding trip the young couple will return to Hepp ner to make their home. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Frank Nickerson and the late Mr. Nickerson. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hayes and has recently received his discharge from the army where he saw ser vice in the Pacific theater. He is employed at Rosewall Motor com pany. O'Harra, who is a former student of the Univer sity of Oregon. O'Harra is a member of the "Glee men", a chorus of 71 voices which stars in the infantrymen's musical comedy. He has already appeared in the show with thousands of sol diers stationd in Nordlingen, Augs burg. Dillingsen, Hochstadt, Neu burg, and other Bavarian cities and towns. The Oregon soldier joined the cast of the show at Steyer, Austria, where his division, the 71st had gained distinction of penetrating farther east in Europe, than any other American ground forces unit by VE day.O'Harra won the com bat infantryman's badge and two campaign stars for the European Theater of Oprations ribbon.
