The Birthday club met at the grange hall Friday afternoon in honor of Mrs. Paul O'Meara and Mrs. Hazel Bene. Fifteen mem bers were present. The afternoon was spent in quilting. Mrs. E. C. Heliker and Mrs. Ida Fletcher were hostesses. Mrs. Ida Grabill returned last week from Yakima. The Topic club met at the Con gregational rooms Friday afternoon to study the country of Mexico. Mesdames M. E. Cotter, Charles O'Connor, Bert Mason and Henry Gorger were hostesses.The social meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Mason July 28. Mrs. Cleo Drake is assisting in the office of George Ely, manager of Morrow County Grain Growers in lone. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Young of Hermiston and two grandchildren were Iorie visitors on Friday of last week. Walter C. Winslow of Salem spent several hours in lone and vicinity transacting business and calling on friends last Saturday. Mr and Mrs. A. E. Stefani and Gene Rietmann visited Art Stefani Jr. air The Dalles hospital Sunday. Gordon White and family have moved into the Heny Gorger house . recently 'vacated by Mr. and Mrs. P. S. Mrs. Mabel Morgan was taken to The Dalles Friday to consult a physician about a back injury. Word has been received that Van Rietmann, son of Mrs. Wm. Sharer of Blalock has arrived in New York and will be transferred to a Wash ington hospital. Van received a hip injury in Austria where he saw ac tion with the 7th army. ' Mrs. Bert Mason, Mrs. M. E. Cot ter and John and Alice Mason left Tuesday of this week for several days visit in Portland. Mrs. John Bryson returned to her camp in Kelly Prairie in the Blue mountains last Saturday. Pa tricia Drake accompanied her. Wheat is reported coming in at a pretty good rate this week as most of the ranchers began harvest ing on Monday. Mrs Walter Corley, Mrs. Clar ence Harris and Mrs. Donald Heli ker were week-end visitors in Port land. Mrs. Holmes Gabbert and daugh ter Patsy of Portland were week end visitors in lone. K. N. Phillips of Portland who is employed in the Geological office in Portland is spending his vaca tion at the H. V. Smouse ranch as sisting with the harvest.
