The new ward looks very nice with the 12 chair cushions madei by Mrs. Ad Moore, Mrs. Fred Par ish, Mrs. Frank Parker and Mrs. Frank Turner. Feathers were giv en by Mrs. J. O. Rasmus, floss by Mrs. Earl Gilliam and ticking by Mrs. Ralph Thompson. The curtains were made by the same griup and are among the prettiest in the wards. An extra strawberry short cake party was given in ward 47 with Mexican prizes by Ralph Thomp son. Fathers' day cards were pur chased by Mrs. Reser for both to do so. wards and written for those unable A further check for $30 was sent, $20 for fresh berries and records in wards and $10 to Elks ward. The Home Ec. club of Lexington grange sent $20. It will provide prizes so ward 47 can enter the monthly carnival held at McCaw. They also are sending prizes for ward 47 party the last of July. The party for the 4th was a special affair with prizes a gift of Mrs. Ralph Thompson. Prizes were sent for ward 46 with patriotic wrap pings. More small radios and per haps another phonograph will be provided. Fidelis Unrein, proprietor of the Richfield station, has gone to the Oregon coast for a few days vaca tion. Lt. Dan E. Maynard and wife of Great Falls, Mont, spent Friday to Monday with Mrs. Maynard's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. James Davis. Lt. Maynard is in the Ferry com mand and expects to ship out with in a few weeks. Mrs. A. G. Pieper of Lexington was called to Portland Saturday dueto the serious illness of her mother, Mrs.' J. H.. Frad. A traveling examiner of opera tors and chauffeurs is scheduled to arrive in Heppner Tuesday, July 10, and will be on duty at the court house between the hours of 10 a. m. and 4 p. m. Mrs. W. P. Herron departed Sat urday for her home , in Medford. Mrs. Herron spent some time in The Dalles before coming on to Hertmer at her mother's death. She is the daughter of the late Mrs. Rosa Eskelson. Mr. arid Mrs. James Davis and Mrs. Anna Bayless drove to Monu ment Wednesday to spend the 4th at the Howard Swick home. David and William Hynd spent a few. days at Ukiah the first of the week, having, accompanied their brother Charles there after he had spent a few days in Hepp ner on business. Akers, lone, was in Hepp ner, Tuesday afternoon for an x-ray examination to determine whether he had broken his leg or had sprained it badly when he jumped over a fence on Monday afternoon. Mjrs. R. C. Lawrence has re turned to her home after nursing Mrs. Harriet Mahoney in St. An thony's hospital in Pendleton for the past week. Mrs. Mahoney is improved but it will be necessary for her to remain in the hospital for a while yet. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Thompson were hosts to their many friends at their ranch home on Wednesday July 4, when a picnic dinner was the main attraction of the day.
