married Feb. 9 at Vancouver bar
racks chapel .by Chaplain R. H.
Bragstad. Pvt Grant has left for
overseas duty and Mrs. Grant has
returned to the home of her parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Newt O'Harra have
received word that their son, Sgt.
John O'Harra has arrived safely in
France.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary
Ella Barnett were held last Thurs
day afternoon " at the Christian
church. Rev. O. Wendell Herbison
of Heppner had charge of the ser
vices, assisted by Mrs. Joel Benton
of Portland. The large number at
tending the services and the many
beautiful flowers attested to the
high esteem in which the deceased
was held by the community. Out of
town relatives attending were Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Nichols of Portland,
Mr. and Mrs. James Leach and Alva
Leach of Portland and Mrs. Ruth
Barnett of Pendleton.
Mrs. Elmer Hunt took her son
Clare to Portland last week for
medical treatment.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Gibson of
Hermiston were visiting relatives
here Saturday.
Clyde Edwards, son of Mr. and
Mrs. A. M. Edwards and Billy Pad
berg, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H.
Padberg, are seeing action on Iwo
Jima with the Fifth Marine divi

A meeting was held Saturday,
Feb. 17. The troop was taken to the
library and instructed in how to
use the library and care of books.
A meeting of this troop was held
Thursday, Feb. 22 at the Heppner
schol. Troop government was dis
cussed and the patrol and Court of
Honor system explained.
The next regular meeting of this
troop will be March 10.
