ment. Miss Margaret Gillis, county
nurse, visited Irrigon schools Mon
day. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Grider spent
Sunday visiting Mrs. Grider's sis
ter, Mrs. W. Brandon and family of
Boardman. Mrs. Grider was hon
ored by two birthday cakes at a
birthday dinner.
Miss Katherine Garren of Uma
tilla was a guest of Mr. and Mrs.
Graybeal and family this week-end.
William Gollyhorn is ill in the
Ordnance post hospital.
J. A. Shoun was a visitor in Pen
dleton Tueday.
Mrs. Marjorie Gordon and small
daughter, Janice of Ordnance were
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. E. Rus
sell Thursday evening.
Among those who attended the
play, "Deacon Dubbs" given by
the junior and senior classes of Ir
rigon high school last Thursday
evening were Mrs. Dorothy Ost
land, Mrs. Nancy Putnam, Mrs. An
na Bannick, Miss Neree Glasgow,
Miss Evelyn Hopkins and Mis Vera
Cross, all of Ordnance.
Tom Caldwell visited in Portland
this week-end.
Miss LaVerne Duus is now em
ployed at the Umatilla Ordnance
depot hospital.
Cn Ellen Miller has returned
to Pasco after spending a few days
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Miller.
Mr. and Mrs. Adren Allen and
family have moved onto the Duus
farm. Mr. Allen plans, on farming
the Duus and part of the Grim
farms.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Berry of Port
land were guest of Mr. and Mrs.
Russell McCoy over the week-end.
Veda Mae Hill and Mrs. Henry
Miller are on the sick list this week.
Mrs. Chauncy Grim and son,
Frank Rider, went to Vancouver
this week to visit relatives.
S lc and Mrs. Frank Leicht of
southern , California, , came last
'Thursday to visit his sister, Mrs
Sam Umiker and family.
Mrs. Lily Warner is at the home
of her daughter, Mr. Batie Rand,
having been released from the Wal
la Walla hospital last Friday.
Mrs. Martha Ferrill enjoyed a
visit from her brother-in-law and
sister and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
Josh Latham of Madison, Ky., and
Ada Covington of White Plains, Ky.
Mrs. Latham and Mrs. Ferrill had
to visit to "make up for lost time"
as they had not seen each other for
15 years.
Mrs. Roy Van Cleave and Mr. and
Mrs. Mates of Pasco visited Mr.
and Mrs. Milton Bradley and family
this week-end.
Mrs. Russell McCoy, Mr. and
Mrs. Dan Hill and daughter Ther
resa, and Miss June Goodwin were
business visitors in Pendleton Tues

Miss June Goodwin, who resides
with her sister, Mrs. Russell McCoy,
spent the week-end with Miss Ella
Mae Grim.
Irrigon "Comets" were really "in
the groove" last Tusday evening
when they played the Ordnance
Basketeers in a lively game that
i kept the audience on their toes.
Both teams did some excellent play
ing and the Ordnance team never
really gave up. The first half of the
game was a tie with the Irrigon
tf'Tn raising the score to a final
climax of 32 to 29.
Iirigon Pep club girls now have
their uniforms and look very nifty
in their black skirts, white sweat
ers with orange lettering, and or
ange ai;d black hats.
Irrigon vs. Lexington basketball
game Friday, Feb. 2. at Irrigon.
Score 40 to 22 in favor of Irrigon.
"Deacon Dubbs", a three act com
edy, was presented by the Senior
and Junior clases Feb. 1 at the high
school.
Mrs. Robert Smith was hostess to
the play cast of "Deacon Dubbs" at
her home Saturiay evening, Feb. 3.
Ella Mae Grim and Delos Knighten
were honored with the title of
winners in the contest for best ac
tress and actor. Headlight of the
evening was the lunch. A huge red
bow and red candles formed the
attractive centerpiece, and gave
glamour to the delicious food. The
evening was spent playing games
and every one enjoyed themselves
to the Nth degree.
RETURNS FROM SOUTH
Mrs. C. C. Dunham returned to
Heppner Monday evening after an
absence of two months spent in
southern California. Leaving here
the last of November she joined
her husband at Los Angeles and
was with him until he shipped out
Jan. 5. She planned to get work
and remain in Los Angeles but de
cided her Pa and Ma needed her
worse to help get the old family
shpet into the mail each week
and headed north, visiting at Kla
math Falls, Ashland and' Eugene
enroute.
