Mrs. Claude Coats and Mrs. Glenn
Mallery spent Christmas in Seattle.
Miss Kfitherine Smoke and Miss
Marjorie Smoke from Oswego vis
ited several days with Mr. and Mrs.
Lehman.
The community Christmas tree
and program were held in the au
ditorium Thursday night. A large
crowd attended.
Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Ely spent
Christmas day with Mr. and Mrs.
E. H. Ely.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Anderegg and
Barbara. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gar
diner, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kunze and
grandsons Mr. and Mrs Jack Mul
ligan and family, Bill Harrinigton
and Ralph Wasmer had Christmas
dinner with Mr and Mrs. I. Skoubo.
Word was received from Lyle
Robertson from Europe Monday.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Ransier and
family from Pendleton, Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Marlow, Daniel Ran
sier from Pendleton and Miss Le
nora Self spent Christmas day with
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Ransier.
There was -an unusually large
crowd at the Christmas dance spon
sored by the student .body Saturday
night.
Miss Dorothy Roach and Robert
Zeppenfeld spent Christmas with
Mr. and Mr.s Roach. Dorothy is at
tending high school in Bremerton.
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Root spent
Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Leo
Root.
Glenda Case from Rowena spent
Saturday visiting friends here. Ed
ward McClellan and Glenda motor
ed to Rowena Sunday.
TEACHERS RESIGN
Two resignations in the teaching
force the past week have been ac
cepted and their places filled, ac
cording to the board of directors
of school district 12. Lexington. Re
signing were Mrs. C. C. Carmich
ael and Mrs. Eula Barnhouse. En
gaged to teach in their places are
Mrs. Horace Holcomb and Mrs.
Char. O'Connor, both of lone.
Mrs. H.. mb will teach the sev
enth and eighth grades and Mrs.
O'Connor will be high school in
structor. Mrs. Dorris Mitchell has resigned
from the Heppner school because of
the serious illness of her husband.
Supt. Corwin is hopeful of having
a new teacher on the job next Tues
day. Mrs. F. W. Turner has been
substituting for Mrs. Mitchell.

VISITED IN PORTLAND
C. W. Barlow and daughters, Ma
rie, and Mrs. Robert Walker, spent
Christmas and part of the week in
Portland with Mi's. Barlow and her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Spencer
Akers. Pvt Robert Walker came
from Yakima and joined the family
enroute to Portland, leaving there
for Fort Douglas, Utah.
FLEET OWNER COUPONS DUE
Truck fleet owners are advised by
the rationing office that they may
get their gas coupons after noon
Friday. All who asked for additional
coupons will have to apply through
the county agent's office as the lo
cal board has no authority to grant
additional gasoline.
ANDREW J. LAKE PASSES
Mrs. Earle Gilliam has received
news of the passing of her brother-in-law,
Andrew J. Lake. Death
came to him Dec. 24 at the family
home in Ontario. He had suffered
from a heart ailment for about three
three years.
Surviving are Mrs. Lake and two
children, Ruth, 12 and Jack 10.
Mr. Lake and family visited the
Gilliams in November. Mrs. Lake
is the former Linnie Perry of Heppner.
UNDERGOES APPENDECTOMY
Bob Kelly, son of Mr. and Mrs.
E. A. Kelly, underwent an appen
dectomy Wednesday morning at the
Heppner hospital. Young Kelly is
a junior in Heppner high school.
