TIRE INSPECTION RECORDS
MUST BE SAVED
Effective April 20, 1944, periodic
tire inspeation of passenger tires
will no longer be required. Tire in
spection records, however, must be
retained for presentation (1) with
any application for a replacement
tire, and (2) with an application
for mileage rations. This discon
tinuance of peroidic inspection will
not change the requirement that
applicants for replacement tires
must have their applications certi
fied in the usual manner by an of
ficial OPA tire inspector.
This does not apply to truck tires.
It is still necessary for them to
have periodic inspections. The ab
olishment of periodic tire inspec
tions does not in any way relieve
the motorist from having his tires
recapped.
LUMBER SITUATION CRITICAL
The war production board has
asked AAA committees to distribu c
the April-May-June quarter lum
ber allocation of 250 million board
feet for farm use with extra ca"e
because the lumber supply situati.o
has taken a turn for the worse. .
Military need will take 70 percent
of this year's lumber output, ac
cording to WPB. Shipping lumber
alone, used chiefly for crating ard
packaging munitions and suppli",
will require nearly half of the lum
ber produced. The remainder mu.it
be .divided among railroads, utili
ties, mining and heavy industries,
war housing, farms, and other es
sential construction. More stringent
regulations governing the distribu
tion of lumber are expected to be
issued within the near future,
are urged to request lumber rat
ings for most critical needs.
