HERE FROM EAST
Ensign John Crawford left Wed
nesday night on his return to Boston
after visiting a few days with his
mother, Mrs. Lera Crawford, and
other relatives and friends. John is
attending Harvard college and has
a few more months before taking
up active duty. He completed his
midshipman course last week and
was advanced to the rank of ensign
just before leaving for home.
PNEUMONIA FATAL TO
MISS IDA McATEE
Following an illness of about two
weeks, Miss Ida McAtee succumb
ed 'to pneumonia at 2 o'clock a. m.
today.

A. McAtee, were both ill and due
to a shortage of help she tried to
take care of him,- Yesterday it de
gerous and an oxygen tent was put
veloped that her condition was dan
to use but she was too weak to re
vive. Ida was a native of Heppner and
spent practically her entire life
here. Her twin sister, Mary, passed
away about 10 years ago. Ida at
tended the grade school in Hepp
ner and took high school work in
a Spokane school. She spent some
time in Los Angeles and returned
here to make her home with her
father. One sister, Mrs. Vallejo
Johnson of Portland, with the fa
ther survives.
Funeral arrangements had not
been announced prior to press time.
GIVE SON FAREWELL
PARTY BEFORE INDUCTION
Mr. and Mrs. R, D Allstott Sr
were hosts Sunday evening to a
large group of friends at their
Eight Mile home honoring their son
R. D. Jr. who is leaving soon to en
ter the service of Uncle Sam. The
evening was spent in playing games
and later the hosts served a bounti
ful lunch. The honored guest was
presented with a gift accompanied
by the best wishes of the entire
community. Mrs. Claude Huston
assisted in serving the following
guests:

LEAVING FOR SERVICE
Mr and Mrs. Ben Eberhard were
driven to Pendleton Wednesday by
Glen Lockard. They were enroute
to 'Wyoming where Mrs. Eberhart
will live while her husband is in
the service. He has been employed
at the Heppner Lumber company
mill.
